Thanks for reporting that. In the last few minutes of the disc mine stops and then starts and then stops and then starts then won't play through to the end. A manufacturing defect I suppose. I have to play it on all my burners and players and see if it works on any. I so far have only played it on my Decware modified (tubed output stage added taken off the DAC chip) Sony 685 player; this machine however usually plays everything.

  3. The bulk of these are drawn from the "Jazz in Paris" series of cds from Gitanes (Universal), arranged around a theme for the sets. There is reported to be a few, A FEW, tracks that did not appear in the "Jazz in Paris" series, but I for one don't know what those tracks are. There is going to be predominantly studio but some live tracks here from an assortment of musicians both French, from other European countries, and Americans.
  4. I don't know what section Tarantino guest directed either. .. . If I could guess I would guess the sequence with Dwight and a dead Jack Rafferty on the way to the Tar Pits and maybe into the Tar Pits? Just a guess!

No, mine is definitely defective. It stops and then starts and then stops and then starts. A manufacturing defect. I'll send it back after I've determined it does this on all my machines. (So far I've only tried it in my Sony universal player that is modified to have a tubed output; this machine generally plays everything so it probably behaves the same way in my other players, but I haven't verified that.) I totally dig this disc otherwise! Thanks for weighing in!
  6. Wow! I couldn't have had a more different reaction. . . well yes, I could. I didn't LOVE the movie, I just thought it was fascinating; the technical reproduction of the comic book world was amazing. I saw it again this weekend with another friend who talked me into going. I reveled in the scenes with Rosario Dawson (Gail). She's a stunning woman!
  7. Maigret eh? I can't imagine watching a British version of Maigret, but the Simenon novels are wonderful (actually, ALL Simenon is worth reading in my opinion, or rather all that I've read, I'm trying to read it all!)
  8. I watched "Rush Hour 2" again (first time was in the theater) this weekend as part of my Ziyi Zhang kick! It was a lot of fun.

Anybody else have problems with the final cut on "Black Gypsy"? Mine is defective. Guess I'll send it back. .. .

    Charlie Rouse

"Oh Yeah" is one of the two Epic lps. That and half the other is collected on the Columbia cd "Unsung Hero". . . . I recommend this cd! I also like his work as coleader of Les Jazz Modes, though it's a bit different!

His Epic stuff is wonderful. I'm a fan. I love the It Club recordings. . .they're pretty solid representations of his work with Monk and something to be proud of!
  12. Lennon the Limey is one of my favorite Bugs. I hate the walrus.
  13. Looks like a terrorist to me! Blue alert!
  14. Happy Birthday Mr. Evan-ident!
  15. I agree, it's a gem!

    March 1st RVG

I would get the new one. Better presentation visually: pictures, picture card in the center, etc.
  17. Gitte was so cute! Though one side of my family was "Henning" so I better cool my jets.
  18. Damn! I wish Masters of Jazz were still around Uncle Clem!

    March 1st RVG

The Japanese "Night Dreamer" JRVG from a few years back was much prefered by me to the McMaster. Weird. I haven't heard the new one yet.

    Billy Gardner

Does a few sideman appearances here and there around that time. I know he appeared on at least one of the two Charlie Rouse Epic lps on piano.
  21. I'm going from memory of a few weeks back. . . he may, but it isn't often and predominantly!
  22. I think the largest difference is likely that the Five Spot was recorded via a tape deck in someone's handbag or at at table, within the audience, while the European recordings are from a large hall sound system recorded for broadcast professionally, or from a private recording of that broadcast in a fan's home. . . .
  23. Okay, I've had Berimbaum for about 18 hours now. . . Man I dig this! Definitely a tastefully done fusion of the contemporary with the classic. The result is one of those rare albums that frees itself from the cliches of the genre, even though it uses them, presenting them in a new light. Paula sings beautifully. There are some devestatingly good use of low horns, drum machines, synth sounds, and sampled guitars etc. Some parts sound like Laswell dub-productiong (which is meant as a compliment). Some sound like nothing else quite that I've heard. The sonics and the mix are just great. Fun fun music and I'm going to be enjoying and recommending this for some time!
  24. I may be off base but isn't John Collins talking about the mob a bit like the pot calling the kettle black? My memory isn't as sharp as it used to be though. . . . I'll have to look something up.
