  1. We won't hear that as long as Michael Cuscuna is in command of the vaults. And it may not be in the vaults any longer. My guess is that he reviewed the tape with Wayne and maybe gave it to him to destroy. (Michael told me that he did that with Horace Silver and a tape of his).
  2. Hope it was a great one! Many more!
  3. Many many more happy returns!
  4. Chris, have a great one, and many many more.
  5. Well, I kept this one because it had about 120,000 miles on it and needed a clutch again, and I bought a nicely priced R65 in the meantime, then ended up in love with my late wife who sort of gave me the choice of her or my motorcycle (she was unable to look beyond the fact that motorcycles are dangerous and she was too anxious to let me ride off worrying that she'd never see me again). So I gave up riding, sold the R65 (which is no R90!) and just kept the R90 in the garage (or garages, as we moved once from a rented house a block away to the one we bought). It needs so much work that I think it's best as a parts bike now. . . and I still like having it around.
  6. Glad it was a good one, and many more happy returns!
  7. Wow. Well, I can't agree. I hear a LOT in Jamal's playing through the decades. I think he found a way to be unique, to have his own sound and conception. I totally admire musicians like that. For me, he's one of the greats.
  8. Anderson wasn't the best writer of prose, but he had some great story ideas and created some great recurring central characters. I really like his stories about the intergalactic diplomatic/secret agent, and that trio of merchants, and the Time Patrol stories.
  9. Well, congrats on the new bike! I was just staring at my old R90/6 out in the garage today. What a bike. Deserves to be someone's part bike, so I may see if anyone needs it soon, been sitting unused for twenty years! Still pressure in the tires, I haven't touched them in all this time. I'm taking my Harley FXDF in for an inspection this morning. Over 16,000 miles put on in 2010. The best motorcycling year of my life. Still no windshield on mine, or fairing of any kind. Love the feeling of the wind. Long trip season is over. . . eager for another one next year. One of two great things in my life (after years of crap) has been returning to motorcycling.
  10. Yes, me too. I only have three backups. . .
  11. A pretty darned good machine. . . I have one as well, not in use right now because I have players I like tbe sound of better in my two systems, but a great machine, especially at this discounted price! The great thing about this as an SACD player is that it keeps the DSD chain all the way to the DAC unlike many many players (you'd be surprised how many!) It really is great sounding with SACDs. Someone should snag it. Before Kevin decides to keep it as a spare.
  12. Got my "Insurgentes" 2 DVD set in the mail today!
  13. I was joking. . . she's done practically nothing. But she's probably doing what she can and wants to, which is her elder stateswoman right. It would be great if she would delegate and oversee work on getting more Mingus out there officially, but she may not want to waste waning energy on something the pirates aren't going to stop doing anyway.
  14. I agree, but if I were the one putting this out I'd be sure to hire security that was Sue Mingus-proof.
  15. I don't have that set, but I'm sure if it is what the title purports to be there would be quite a bit of overlap. The Mosaic is going to sound a lot better and have a great booklet. AND I wager material not on the other set.
  16. I've always liked the show, but for me it really picked up and caused me more enjoyment towards the end of last season and with this new season; I love the "war between the worlds" storyline, and they way they've handled it. Hate that it has been pushed away for a spell by baseball! (I'm not a follower of sports).
  17. Coming out very soon! This has been discussed in the Steve Hoffman forum for weeks now. . . . I think it's a good thing that Legacy is now handling the family's catalog.
  18. This was just the next phase Bob had planned, I know he would have moved into producing box sets from the sixties and seventies had he not run headlong into the big family roadblock. . . . It's a shame. In time I believe that the almighty dollar will mean we'll see more of what we want. How much time? Not sure. The fact that the trumpet case is not jumping off the shelves probably means something to the label and perhaps family, but the lesson they take from this may not be the one we'd wish.
  19. (Comment deleted, thought better about it). The first Jamal I ever hearsd was "Happy Moods" because somehow that lp got into the family collection before we left for Africa. I played that one over and over and over (another that I played over and over often right after it was "Bossa Nova USA" by Brubeck). The music on that lp still reaches out and grabs my imagination and pushes most of my pleasure buttons.
  20. Started watching "Trauma" on dvd, its one and only season. This was a good tv show; I was sad to see it go away. The dvd doesn't really look great, the show I think looked better on broadcast, but there's no Blu-Ray of this available, wish there was.
  21. Many many happy happy returns!
  22. The excellent Threadgill box.
  23. I hope that the family gains or regains some sort of sensible attitude to balance their wants and needs with that of the label. . . and the fans. Right now I think we are short a few box sets that the label would put out if the family were interested or even compliant. I may be wrong.
  24. I think they re-arranged set list order to fit onto three cds.
  25. Great news! Yes Eric, that was the sound you heard.
