I wonder if he plans on coming down to the Bay Area. I haven't seen anything in the press about it.

They're going to be at Yoshi's next month, and most of them will also be at Bobby Hutcherson's memorial concert at SFJAZZ that same week. Then they come back to SFJAZZ for a few days in February - in the very intimate Joe Henderson Lab. I'll be there!

I went. Great show! This group is always worth seeing. Billy Hart is always worth seeing - a master, for sure.

I'm mulling over seeing Billy Hart Quartet (w/Ethan Iverson, Mark Turner & Ben Street) tomorrow night at SFJAZZ. I've seen them before, and while not a big Mark Turner fan, it's still high-level music. Another plus is that they're playing in the VERY intimate Joe Henderson Lab.

Seeing Pat Metheny at SFJAZZ tomorrow night. Haven't seen him in over 30 years and have heard good things about his new quartet. So I figured I might as well see what he's up to.

AFAIK, the Joe Chambers/Larry Young "Double Exposure" album has never been released on CD.

Saw Julian Lage with his trio tonight. A brilliant guitar player, but I felt an emotional disconnect with the music. All technique and very little heart.

Haven't heard it. I have the Jones/Lewis BB, Larry Young, Getz at the KK, and Sarah Vaughan sets. The only one that doesn't work for me is Sarah's. It's later in her career and she falls back on her operatic idiosyncrasies too much for my taste.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. While this continues to be one of the great American music festivals, very little of it consists of "jazz".

OK - good to know. My comment about outtakes was the "bottom feeding" concern - like sub-par demos and rehearsal sessions.

Are these releases full of bottom feeding outtakes and live shows, or is there some legitimately good stuff here? One reason I ask is that most of the albums released during Frank's lifetime were heavily edited and mixed by him. Even the live albums.
