  1. I was wondering about his health. He has looked pretty frail in the the pictures I've seen of him over the past few years. I'm glad that SFJAZZ was able to put on such a star-studded tribute for him.
  2. Two Resonance albums: Thad/Mel @ the Vanguard, and Stan Getz @ the KK.
  3. Sounds like a great evening.
  4. I just got this. REALLY looking forward to hearing it. $17.99 on Amazon
  5. They'll be previewing that music at SFJAZZ in October.
  6. The Cookers are playing 4 nights (8 shows!) in the Joe Henderson Lab at SFJAZZ in February. This is a VERY intimate venue and it will be a real treat to see them there.
  7. Depending on what browser you are using, I would check "Add Ons" or "Extensions" to see if there's some malware that installed itself.
  8. Brinsley (and I think one or two others in the band) were also in Graham Parker's Rumour.
  9. This Resonance CD digipak set is on sale on their website: ON SALE! 40% OFF THROUGH JUNE 5th: $13.19
  10. Thanks, but I don't think it's OOP. The Mosaic website says "This set is on backorder and is expected to be available late 2016"
  11. I should pick that up whenever it becomes available again. Some of his best work was on Muse.
  12. Saw that about a month ago on a Thursday afternoon. Not crowded at all, but when I went back to the Institute on Saturday, it was packed. Very good show, for sure. On Friday I saw the mammoth László Maholy-Nagy retrospective at the Guggenheim. Highly recommended if you live in the NYC area or are planning to go. I learned a lot about him and his art. Definitely get the audio tour, which is included in the admission price. Moholy-Nagy: Future Present
  13. My fav Sylvian album is "Secrets of the Beehive." I like Rain Tree Crow, too.
  14. Interesting. THANKS for the tip! Nice retro look, too.
  15. I would think that a capo made for acoustics would have a stronger spring. Also if you have an adjustable bridge it could be raised a little.
  16. Electric or acoustic guitar? I think it makes a difference.
  17. Seen him several times with the Cookers. One of my favorite bassists for a long time. Probably saw him other times in the past, too. One that I know for sure: Chico Freeman, Arthur Blythe, Cecil McBee, Freddie Waits, Mark Thompson in 1983.
  18. Saw Cassandra Wilson at SFJAZZ a couple of nights ago. Nice set of songs celebrating Billy Holiday, from her most recent album. Very solid band with her, but were mixed a little too loud in some places unfortunately. The only name I recognized was bassist Lonnie Plaxico who's played with her off and on since the early 90s.
  19. I remember hearing about that in the 70s or 80s, but never felt it was any of my business to mention or discuss it publicly. She was a regular performer at Keystone Korner.
  20. This is very cool. Willie Mays honored with Cable Car No. 24 for his 85th
  21. As much as I love Tolliver I've never warmed to his BB stuff. There's a harshness that I have trouble getting past.
  22. Probably an Austin City Limits taping.
  23. I think it's only because older music fans are more likely to pay for recorded music. I don't think that streaming is taken into account here.
  24. Will try to get to the SF show, for sure.
