  1. AFAIK, the Joe Chambers/Larry Young "Double Exposure" album has never been released on CD.
  2. Saw Julian Lage with his trio tonight. A brilliant guitar player, but I felt an emotional disconnect with the music. All technique and very little heart.
  3. Haven't heard it. I have the Jones/Lewis BB, Larry Young, Getz at the KK, and Sarah Vaughan sets. The only one that doesn't work for me is Sarah's. It's later in her career and she falls back on her operatic idiosyncrasies too much for my taste.
  4. BACK TO SCHOOL SALE Use PROMO CODE BACK2016 for 30% off Entire Catalog (valid through midnight 9/14)
  5. New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. While this continues to be one of the great American music festivals, very little of it consists of "jazz".

OK - good to know. My comment about outtakes was the "bottom feeding" concern - like sub-par demos and rehearsal sessions.

Are these releases full of bottom feeding outtakes and live shows, or is there some legitimately good stuff here? One reason I ask is that most of the albums released during Frank's lifetime were heavily edited and mixed by him. Even the live albums.
  8. Not exactly "Yoshi's," but a familiar face re-surfaces in the East Bay. Congrats, Peter! After an extensive, national search, we're excited to announce that we've chosen Peter Williams as the Freight's new program director. He comes highly recommended by his peers and the musicians he's worked with, and we are so fortunate that he will be joining our already stellar team. Peter will help us build on the success and progress we've made in recent years, continuing the Freight's mission to present the kinds of traditional music we've been associated with since 1968 as well as broadening our reach to include other kinds of roots music from around the world. Peter says, "I'm thrilled to be a part of the team at the Freight! Traditional music has always been close to my heart; I grew up around bluegrass and folk music thanks to my parents. I look forward to bringing a great eclectic line-up to this incredible room." Peter comes to the Freight with an encyclopedic knowledge of music and seventeen years experience booking venues in the Bay Area. During his time at Yoshi's, Napa Valley Opera House, and most recently the Green Music Center, he brought an incredible range of artists to Northern California including Bela Fleck, Taj Mahal, Chick Corea, Orchestra Baobab, Blind Boys of Alabama, Steve Martin & Steep Canyon Rangers, Chico Trujillo, and Natalie Cole. Peter lives in Oakland with his wife, Chelsea, and is looking forward to his new shorter BART commute when he starts at the Freight in October. He's already helping us out a bit behind the scenes, so look for exciting new artists on the Freight schedule in 2017. 2020 Addison Street, Berkeley CA 94704 (510) 644-2020

I know there's one that's being crowd-funded, but I think it's more of a traditional doc about FZ. What's great about Eat That Question is that it's almost exclusively excerpts of interviews he did over his lifetime.

That's a very good doc, BTW. A must-see for any Zappa fan! (or even if you're not)
