Stompin at the Savoy Posted August 10, 2023 Report Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Agree about those Capitol Teagarden sessions. I don't have this set. Listening on youtube for now. Even when he breaks the rules, he's still following the rules! Edited August 11, 2023 by Stompin at the Savoy Quote

Stompin at the Savoy Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 I finally scored a copy of this recently and have been happily going through it. The sound is so much better than anything I had of this material. Disk 4 at the moment. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 Earlier today Classic 1936-1947 Count Basie and Lester Young Studio Sessions - disc 1. Tomorrow The Savory Collection 1935-1940 - discs 5 & 6 Count Basie broadcasts. Quote

I didn't expect to get much out of the Ellington '32-40 box as I had the material in other collections, but it is probably my all-time favorite Mosaic set. Quote

mhatta Posted September 8, 2023 Report Posted September 8, 2023 (edited) I really love Jackie Mclean's Hipnosis, which AFAIK is only available on CD as a part of this Mosaic Select. Edited September 8, 2023 by mhatta Quote

Stompin at the Savoy Posted October 16, 2023 Report Posted October 16, 2023 I had some of the 7 albums on here. I found it was cheaper to get CD quality FLAC files for the whole set from Presto ($32) than buy the remaining single albums. The mastering is good on this set. Listening to Up and Down at the moment. Quote
Stompin at the Savoy Posted October 17, 2023 Report Posted October 17, 2023 Judging by the sound and the fact that this came out in 2022, this is very likely derived (stolen) from the masters done for the Mosaic set - The Complete Blue Note Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Studio Sessions. I was able to get the other two albums on the Mosaic set - Chant and The Creeper - as downloads. Chant in particular was rather nice because Presto had this as a hi res 96 kHz, 24 bit file, which turned out to have incredible detail, esp the cymbals, when listening with the appropriate equipment through LDAC equipped headphones. To complete my poor man's Mosaic, I get the book here: https://musicbrainz.org/release/cc1484c5-c59f-439c-8fe3-a10763ab1b3a/cover-art Quote
Bob_Bobson Posted October 27, 2023 Report Posted October 27, 2023 This was a great Select. Love all of the tenors on it, but the session with Gene Ammons is particularly rich. Quote
