ghost of miles
/Boxy Mabry! Was in a Getz mood and pulled this one off the shelf, one of several sets from this Getz era (Complete Roost, West Coast Sessions) that I really enjoy:
Stompin at the Savoy
Volume 4 includes pretty much everything (as far as I can tell) on the first two disks of the Mosaic Ellington orchestra set, plus a few RCA recordings. I haven't really compared them closely but it seems possible that the mastering is the same or derived from the Mosaic masters. Quite a gathering of West Coast all-stars on this one, which the L.A. Jazz Institute put together.

The sound is acceptable, if a little brittle. The music is top notch, imo. Lot's of great players - Stan Getz, Roy Haynes, Hank Jones, Zoot Sims, Mel Lewis and more. I'm enjoying it! 👍 😁

T.D.
One of those oddly packaged box sets. Apart from the peculiar metal sleeve, it's pretty nicely designed.
