Stompin at the Savoy Posted August 16 Report Posted August 16 I received a tracking number! It often takes several days to my little corner of Oregon. On top of that today I received a very nice copy of the Buddy De Franco/Sonny Clark quartet and quintet set, for which I have searched many's the long year, and the price was shockingly low - counting for 30 years of inflation, probably less than the original price. I tried for a while to get all the original albums but some were pretty difficult to find on cd. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 17 Report Posted August 17 I'm still "Processing." Something to look forward to! Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 Received. Will listen later tonight or tomorrow. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 19 Report Posted August 19 I got a tracking number. As my grandfather would say "won't be long now said the cat whose tail got caught in the lawn mower." (He had his own way with words). Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 19 Report Posted August 19 This is completely nitpicky, and as someone who hadn't bought a new box from Mosaic in years, but the materials used for the box and booklet are very flimsy. Quote
cliffpeterson Posted Wednesday at 07:21 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:21 PM Received the box today. Have yet to listen to the music. But I did read the booklet, which is the most informative and well written booklet that I have read in a long time. Congrats to Mr. Stryker. Quote

BFrank Posted Saturday at 01:43 AM Report Posted Saturday at 01:43 AM (edited) Got mine today. Very excited to see 2 photos and one track (Doktor Pitt) from April 12, 1981 at the Great American Music Hall in SF. I was there👍 Edited Saturday at 01:46 AM by BFrank Quote
psu_13 Posted Sunday at 01:03 AM Report Posted Sunday at 01:03 AM Got mine yesterday. Going through it today. Very good. Quote
pglbook Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago (edited) I received my box set on Friday and had a chance to listen to the first 2 CDs yesterday. I was familiar with the music from those CDs due to having those albums on vinyl and I can say that the sound quality on this Mosaic box set is very analogue-like. It is one of the best sounding Mosaics I have heard. And, as others have already stated, the booklet essay by Mark Stryker, is outstanding. Very well done. Just an overall great box set. Kudos to Mosaic for doing this! Edited 15 hours ago by pglbook Quote

Obviously, I'm biased having worked on it, but I do think this set, whether the music is to one's specific taste or not, is in the tradition of the best of what Mosaic has done. Stompin at the Savoy Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago I received the set today but haven't had time to read book or listen. Will report back later. Quote
jazzbo Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago Mine was scheduled to arrive yesterday. It reached ClevelandUSPS (about 45 miles away) on Saturday but then on Sunday. . . Cleveland instead of sending it East to me sent it South to Columbus! Hopefully I'll get it re-routed to me and have it tomorrow. Quote
Clunky Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Made it to disc 4 and I have to say I'm not disappointed. I have scattered entries from his discography but haven't investigated his music throughly - my way of saying I'm not a hardcore fan. Very limited weirdness ( vocals !!) and just a lot of strong tunes and thoughtful playing in great set. I'm not sure that this set is overkill. I really like it Quote

Came here to say exactly this after receiving the set yesterday, listening to disc 1 and reading your superlative notes. This set pulls together a lot of previously hard-to-find or unavailable music, presents it in beautiful sound and with words that capture and elaborate on its creative vitality, and broadens the perceived spectrum of Sanders’ legacy as a jazz artist. Grateful that David Weiss and John Koenig shepherded this Cuscuna project to completion and that you signed on to do the essay and session liners. When it comes to Mosaic booklets I’m a consummate Loren Schoenberg fan, but there’s a new horn in town, kids… somebody go wake up Mary Lou Williams! Quote
