Holy Ghost Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago This was also a recently released 2cd set by BN Quote
bertrand Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago I wish we could get Joe Harley to explain the strategy. Why not do both LP AND CD? Quote
JSngry Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago Probably something to do with margins and maximumizing shareholder value and every other excuse that everybody has these days Quote
david weiss Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago OK, I'll try to be more specific..... LP is the priority now. They are not going to release bonus material on CD only so that means a 2nd LP for bonus material and that is usually cost prohibitive and there might not be enough material to fill out a 2nd LP. I prepared bonus tracks for Just Coolin' and that idea was nixed (I had chosen 4 bonus tracks if I remember correctly). This does not apply to new releases. They will release all the material intended on both CD and LP. As for the Quebec and Burrell, I guess these were essentially re-issues with a few extra bonus tracks (on the Burrell at least and apparently they missed a couple for the Quebec). Both 3 LP/2 CD sets. Perhaps other tone poets could go this route if there was enough bonus material to fill out a 2nd LP and if they do a CD as well, a single CD. I guess this could happen by combining the two Washington CDs but I'm not sure how much they are looking at stuff like this. Quote
mhatta Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I hope to see it someday. (From https://destinationsunknownjazz.wordpress.com/2019/01/18/musings-and-imaginary-cover-art-of-some-still-unreleased-blue-note-sessions/) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Given its appeal to fans of Strata-East and related, it seems ridiculous not to release the unissued Tyrone Washington album at this point. It is a really good date, too... Quote

felser Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago We are blessed to have lived through the 1980's-2000's golden era of Blue Note reissues, to have 95% of everything meaningful from the label made available to us, which, along with Fantasy doing the same for Prestige and Riverside, was a dream come true. Glad for any extra goodies David Weiss and the current BN regime can send our way, but it's a cherry on top of the sundae compared to what we already have. Quote
jazzbo Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Word John. Those were the days. Yes they were. Those were the days. Quote
