Dub Modal Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 This is good news. They do a good job on their reissues and always provide them via download as well. Quote

I was hoping for Canyon Lady or Black is the Colour I bought them in the first half of the seventies, both Tetragon and Canyon Lady, listen to them on USB stick. Actually, the first Joe Henderson LP I had was Canyon Lady. All Milestones albums, all of them, each artist....they were great and a great part of the top acts on jazz festivals were "Milestone Stars". Quote
Late Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Hopefully a download will follow. Would much prefer a compact disc issue, but am not holding my breath. I need to spin this album soon! Quote

It’s widely avaible on that format. On vinyl it was pretty rare/expensive. Quote

Late Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago Tetragon has to contain one of the best versions of "Invitation." What are some other great versions? I watched a YouTube video the other day of Roy Hargrove, an artist I never really followed, play "Invitation." Faster than Henderson, but really nice. I think Joe's tempo for this song is perfect. JSngry Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Imo, this is Joe's best recorded version: But at the other end of the galaxy... Words!!! Jimmy Heath did a nice one on The Gap Sealer. Quote

Peter Friedman Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Here are some of my favorite versions of "Invitation". And one more. Quote
Late Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago That Rosemary Clooney version is really nice—it sounds like it should be played while credits for a James Bond movie crawl up the screen. Goodness—I have that Lucky Thompson disc...and spaced it contained "Invitation." I need to spin it soon! I dig Joe on that Roy Haynes record!👌 I haven't heard the Konitz or Friedman versions. Need to change that. Quote
mikeweil Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I always found that Joe played Invitation too fast for the melody to really shine. Many play it for the changes, but Kaper's melodies deserve serious attention. My favourites are Cal Tjader and Milt Jackson. Quote
