  4. For sure. I love Savoy CDs and I've never seen Jazz/Star Eyes in the wild. Kind of pricey on Discogs. I probably had the Jenkins/Jordan/Timmons album in my cart multiple times but would always remove it before finalizing a purchase. I'll snag it one day.
  5. A fugly cover indeed. That album (albeit CD version w. original cover art) has been on my want list for a long time. If you like the BN, I recommend the Jenkins/Jordan/Timmons on Prestige. Sadly, I have nothing to add regarding Mr. Jenkins's biography.
  6. Recently watched the first season as they put it on Hulu. Very Law & Order-esque (a good thing!), only with superheroes and villains. Not as refined as Wonder Man (to compare to another Marvel series), and shockingly violent at times. I don't remember Daredevil taking that many blades and gunshots and shaking them off in the comics. but then again I haven't read those in decades.
  7. I don't have Jazz Eyes or Star Eyes but something went awry with this cover art selection. The only Jenkins I have is the Blue Note with Kenny Burrell. Fantastic record and seems to always fly under the radar.
  8. Well this has confused me. I have that Esoldun release shown above as well. From 1988! May as well give it a listen. I won't be buying a CD-R
  9. My copy, the 1993 Japanese issue, shows it as Jazz Eyes.
  10. Has anyone heard the 2011 Esoteric Recordings remaster of this? One reason I've always had trouble with it is the poor quality of the recording. Is it significantly better? Here's their description: +++ The Tony Williams Lifetime: Emergency! CD RE-PRESS: CD ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 2011 REMASTERED UK CD EDITION OF THE CLASSIC DEBUT ALBUM BY TONY WILLIAMS’ LIFETIME – FEATURING JOHN McLAUGHLIN and LARRY YOUNG BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK & NEW ESSAY Esoteric Recordings are pleased to release the first album by the legendary jazz / rock / fusion outfit Tony Williams’ Lifetime. The group was founded by former Miles Davis drummer Tony Williams in 1969 out of his desire to fuse the influences of modern jazz and rock music. Recruiting legendary British guitarist John McLaughlin and organist Larry Young, Williams recorded the album “Emergency!”. It was a stunning and seminal work that divided critics in both jazz and rock but is now rightly regarded as being a groundbreaking work. This Esoteric Recordings edition is remastered and features the original album artwork and an informative essay.
  11. This was actually released (7 tracks) here in Australia back in 1993 - only missing the intro
  12. Jazz Eyes was the original album title, changed to Star Eyes when reissued a couple of decades later.
  13. There is some overlap between this discography and two euro-compilations I have: Oscar Peterson-The Classic Verve Albums and More Classic Verve Albums. I'm glad to have this new set coming! The Mosaic treatment is great: fidelity, mastering, book, photography, etc. I notice the price per disk has gone up a bit. Tempora mutantur nos et mutamur in illis
  14. Back then, so did I. I also took this out-of-focus picture of the Mosaic office. It was so tiny.

  16. That Cuscuna sure had a nice head of hair!
  17. Almost all of these have been released on CD (at least in Japan) and are available for digital download. It seems a few previously unreleased bonus tracks have been added, but I wonder how much the sound quality has actually improved? Personally, these are my favorite Oscar Peterson albums. I think We Get Requests, Night Train, and West Side Story are well-known, but The Oscar Peterson Trio Plays in particular is a hidden gem—it’s wonderful. The groove on Shiny Stockings is especially great! The Sinatra songs and Jazz Soul are a bit understated for Peterson, but that’s what makes them so good—he doesn’t overplay them. Con Alma from the latter album is a personal favorite. Canadian Suite, which showcases his compositional skills, is also excellent. While I feel the MPS recordings have become a bit flashy and clichéd in their performance style, they do a great job of capturing the beauty of Peterson’s piano sound.
  18. Great idea. Send these to Scott!
  19. A 1975 Bremen Recording of Miles. That would be cool. I like the period how he played in 1973-75 most !
  20. I see him listed on Savoy as “Jazz Eyes,” not Star Eyes, unless that is something else.

  22. Black Lion has some treasures. I have some of them. Essen Jazz Festival Allstars, Don Byas at Montmatre, Bud Powell Blues for Bouffemont, HotHouse, Strictly Confidential. And this one is the one I love most NOW, since I listen more to the religious forms of jazz, Pharoah Sanders, late Trane and Albert Ayler....
  23. Thanks, I've now read the discography. FWIW, Fiorello got a stand-alone Japanese CD release, https://www.discogs.com/release/14206878-The-Oscar-Peterson-Trio-Fiorello
