  9. Rahsaan Roland Kirk “The Man Who Cried Fire” Hyena Record cd A killer live performance from Kirk.
  10. Just finished: Now playing: Up next:
  11. I just finished this. I found the first third or so, which covered her life up until she left the Clouds of Joy, pretty interesting. As it continued the writing deteriorated and took on a repetitive quality. It went on and on about Mary's efforts to get the Catholic church to let her stage religious works in church. I don't find her religious works as interesting as her jazz work so I ended up rapidly skimming a lot of that. This is an interesting subject but the book is not terribly well written. I have another bio of Williams, Morning Glory, on order. https://archive.org/details/soulonsoullifemu0000kern/mode/2up
  12. Got it yesterday, Sound is really good.
  13. Marty Grosz was a regular at the Atlanta Jazz Party for years, though he would get on the host's nerves by telling too many jokes at the beginning of sets he led, a problem when individual sets were maybe 25-30 minutes before the lineup changed. I guess Marty is retired now, he must be in his nineties.
  14. The Orphan Newsboys “Extra!” Jazzology cd This outfit led by Marty Grosz is always a fun listen. Marty sings in a Fats Waller style better than anyone I’ve ever heard, a skill born from love. And he may not admit it but he plays a better guitar than Eddie Condon. Great stuff. 500×499 61.6 KB Marty Grosz, guitar and vocals Peter Ecklund, cornet and whistling Bobby Gordon, clarinet and singing Greg Cohen, bass Ken Peplowski, alto sax and clarinet Murray Wall, bass This may not be one of the best recordings ever but it’s so well recorded for what it is. And one wonderful aspect of this group is it takes a while before one realizes. . . there’s no drummer.
  15. Be sure to bring your warmest clothes. Pittsburgh in February gets COLD!
  16. Who knows?😁
  17. So, a little less than 4 weeks til we and all our stuff moves to Pittsburgh. As of this post, I think we’re about 60% packed (+/-5%) — and since neither of us are working any more, we should be 90% done within 2 weeks. Which is good, because we’re taking 2-3 days to run up to PGH with a carload of artwork — plus a few clothes, and some kitchen stuff — the week before the movers take everything. Won’t be too much longer!!
  18. oh yeah, the snowstorms this winter have been relentless! Ticket link: https://link.dice.fm/kdfWJeFFk0b?sharer_id=6137982a13edab0001504bc8 (extra fee goes to the app, not to Tubby's, but Dice is useful if you want to reserve a spot)
  19. Will be there weather permitting. A snowstorm prevented me from getting anywhere near the last Tubby's event. 😢
  20. I think he emerged around the time I left Chicago, or maybe a little after, though I believe I did see him once (struggling to remember the exact context & it was probably in NYC). Excellent player indeed.
  21. So DM me!
  22. I would have!
  23. Yes it is a streaming platform. When they started out uploading Schaap reels, I offered edited/audio optimized MP3 recordings but nobody every took me up on that offer.
  24. The market must be served!!!
  25. I assume this is streaming-only?
