  3. First encountered Von at one of Joe Segal's Charlie Parker Memorial concerts. He was dueling with Dexter Gordon. Next was another Segal show with Von, Jug, Mobley and a very uncomfortable Hank Crawford. Started a weekly encounter at the Enterprise Lounge on 75th St in 1975 and this went on for about 4 years. During that time we made our first recordings. Remember him wiping the floor with Sonny Stitt one night on Lincoln Avenue. Met his mama - lovely lady - at the house they shared with George. Tons of memories through the years. Hard to put them all together in some context. Last saw him a few months ago. Thank you Vonski.
  4. Memories can be tricky. I think the Atlantic record was recorded in 1972.
  5. The Tribune leaves out some fine SteepleChase discs with the great Wilbur Campbell. My link
  6. I thought this one was relatively dull (though it has its moments). Definitely not on the level of Out of the Cool or Individualism. Your "dull" is my "subtle".
  7. You can download it. You missed something. Read the prompts as they appear.
  8. Von was also an outstanding human. He demonstrated that to me many times over the years.
  9. Von always thought he was born in 1922. A couple of years ago the author of the Tribune piece wrote an article "exposing" the "error" to Von's surprise.
  10. Worth tracking down.
  11. With arrangements by my old friend Dale Oehler, better known for playing piano on JR Monterose's "In Action".
  12. Not yet. Let me be sure of the manufacturing schedule. Thanks for the interest.
  13. another October release. This issue includes 2 extra compositions and adds nearly 18 minutes of new music.
  14. An October release.
  15. It happens every year.
  16. Trying to figure out if we can get to see/hear Wadada's performances. Damn!
  17. Thanks Laz. You'd think I might remember the date.
  18. You are confusing music publishing royalties and artist royalties.
  19. Is there any comprehensive reissue (from original masters) of the classic Spike Hughes material? I first learned of some of this wonderful stuff from an Ace of Clubs lp in the '60s, but this only covered the stuff recorded in NYC with the black stars available.
  20. True. It was corrected for this set
