  1. not useless to me... love da link!!
  2. just started listening and it sounds very good to me....
  3. tolliver Disc 3.... Now onto Columbia Swing Sessions Disc V.... Liking it more than the first spin or two.... Love this Buddy Tate guy!!! Who da heck is he? (Although the sound of this session seems funky...) Now... Johnny Smith Disc 3..... I do like this set... !
  4. I hope that's a problem that happens often....
  5. Ironically enough... (even if my thread isn't good enough... ) I'm very interested in the Hill Solo stuff... I tend to be lukewarm on him in general... but the recently purchased "Pax" was interesting and the Select was uneven (IMHO) but intriguing... I've got one a FREEDOM Recording on a West German import... of him Live (solo) at Montreux on July 20 1975 (ironically produced by Cuscuna... and Alan Bates....) and I'm giving that a spin now.... so I'll have a better sense of what would be on the Select.... Will report more later.... -_- -_-
  6. betcha by 1 minute... Great minds think alike....
  7. Up on future projects... (at least I bet Ron S. on the updates.... for once... ) http://mosaicrecords.com/futureprojects.asp Damn... solo sessions... I might have to break my own vow....
  8. Now you HAD to go and tell me that right???? Oh well Who NEEDS a good credit rating anyway!! (And FYI Ron... I suspect I have a few Mosaic won't have...!!!! ) Then you're going to miss Moaic's announcement next month of "The Complete Wynton Marsalis Sessions: Any Label, Any Time, Anywhere," with a special reduced price for those who preorder by the end of August.
  9. We should hide all these from any spying spouses.... Just placed my last order of the year... incl... Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions, Johnny Richards, Duke Pearson and Patton... $300... (NOW I'm really done... I'm not looking at their web page until Jan. 1 2007!)
  10. Wow.... a diss on the Eldridge set.... hhm.... I was also tepid on that one... What turned you off???
  11. I don't agree... Sure ... part of the responsbility is mine... but as many on this board will tell you... you don't KNOW what's often in a set (and if you like it or not) until you've purchased it... Sure having familarity with the artist is important... but in many cases (I'll speak for myself now...) I didn't HAVE the original LP's or had very little by the artist... (or it's an artist who doesn't have much in print...) so therefore it's often difficult to KNOW exactly what the records sound like. My feeling is yes... I bear part of the responsibility (and ultimately most of it... since it's my $$$$) BUT... that doesn't mean I don't think Mosaic makes mistakes... They make ALL kinds of editing/remastering/selection decisions... In fact... if Mosaic were perfect (in everyone's eyes...) I doubt there'd be as much debate on this board....
  12. They just swapped them with you??? How long ago had you purchased the other stuff???? You got me thinking??????
  13. I know we do this from time to time... but I'm in the middle of digitizing my entire collection... and am reliving some of my Mosaic decisions... For my money... the two clunkers.... were the Dinah Washington set (all those backup vocals are truly awful...) and the Chico Hamilton set..... Your take on their mistakes? Regardless of whether or not you bought them.....
  14. Elvis Jones Rockabilly jazz singer/drummer. Well known in concentric circles. MG LMAO.....
  15. my problem is this... The last time I caugh Roachie in person (7 or 8 years ago... ) It was with this group he called the "Asian/Beijing Trio" (something like that)... and it was an unmitigated DISASTER!!! It was SOOO Bad... It was not the first time I seen Roach but it was SO dismal that it completely put me off to this artist.... I know this is his prime stuff done fourty-fifty years before...but I just can't shake that last performance... You guys are forcing me to rethink this though.... I'm about to place my last Mosaic order for the year!!!! (And yes I did preorder the next Singles and the Ellington Set....) and I'm making some hard decisions... I'm leaning heavily (for many reasons Ron S. including those extra lbs. put on by a few too many bagels...) toward also getting the Classic Capitol Sessions and Johnny Richards Select.. and to continue my avoidance of the Roach set.... So... if YOU had to choose between the Classic Capitol and the Roach....????
  16. who DA HELL is that? Elvis Jones
  17. i'm leaning heavily towards it..... What about you Ron S?
  18. looks like an excellent set to me... as I don't have any of those previous releases....
  19. thanks... What ar ethe currently available CDs? Personnel???
  20. what's the scoop again about what's in this set? http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...349471403&BAB=D thanks...
  21. there's a LOT of stuff not on Mosaic.. that one must have... Take almost all 'Trane leader dates for one... All on Impulse... (will they eventually be re-re-re-released by Mosaic in 15 years... probably).... As well as all Prestige/Riverside/OJC stuff... Bill Evans...Monk.... Won't see Mosaic for a long time....
  22. thanks Jack... Always helping to clear things up...!! I might have to get that Slide Hampton now.... The Art Farmer "The Time and the Place" is a fine record, but unfortunately, it's not really live. The band did record at the Museum of Modern Art, but the sound was not up to snuff, so they went back into the studio and cut the album, then fake applause was added. Amazingly, the unissued material that turned up on the 2-fer reissue also has the fake applause. Mosaic makes no mention of this, so evidently the myth will be perpetuated. I wonder if undoctored tapes actually still exist? The Slide Hampton "Drum Suite" is another rare item that's nice to see available again.
