  3. I posted this in the "Mosaic Partials" section in "Offering & Looking For" 5 days ago but have got no response so i've decided to repost it here "Mosaic & Other Box Sets - I might be luckier here "Got out my Basie live Roulette (MD8-135) set out a couple of days ago for a spin & realised that the two small booklets for each jewel case (each holds 4 CDs) are identical ie I have two copies of Vols I-IV (have all discs I-VIII though). I can't believe I hadn't noticed this before but I generally use the large booklet for reference (tracks/discography) & not the small booklets. Anyway, I doubt anyone would have a spare copy of the booklet for discs V-VIII (btw, I've tried Scott at Mosaic & they don't have any) but a scan PDF file would be greatly appreciated from an owner of the set".
  4. so it's a term of "endearment" rather than a reflection of a generally "shitty" service. I've been using them for a number of years now (since 2004) & they have been spot on. Not one complaint over those 17 years - they've always come through (new & second hand) plus their shipping charges to Australia (including LPs) are miles ahead of any other US dealers - I don't know how they do it. I actually visited the shop in Chicago when I travelled to the states in 2017 plus also went upstairs & met John Corbett at Corbett Vs Dempsey - even bought a stack of their CDs.
  5. just fascinated to know why they are/have been called "The Bastards/Da Bastards "

  7. It's all there (complete Strozier session) in the Chambers/Kelly Vee Jay Mosaic Box - includes two previously unreleased tracks - great music!! Lots of (original) "Jazz Patterns" records for sale online - asking price quite cheap (IMHO) considering the amazing lineup supporting Pat. Only thing holding me back is the extortionate shipping costs to Australia.
  8. same as the ESP Disk release (LP & CD) - the 2014 ESP CD has three extra quartet tracks with Zoot Sims
  9. I'm pretty sure I have all of Booker Little's (official) output, including sideman cept for a Pat Thomas Strand LP (Jazz Patterns) - wasn't aware of that one till & just checked the Lord Discography. Was released digitally by Fresh Sound (legit?). Have also attempted Wardell Gray but that's a significant ask
  10. "Budism" is a 3 CD trio set on Steeplechase - some for sale on discogs, see link https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/10880621?ev=rb I havn't heard of "Budism Plus"
  11. Just checked the Nimbus West site & it appears that both the new Tapscott (3LP) plus the Billie Harris (I Want Some Water LP) pre-orders have sold out!!
  12. So did I & also received no flexi - purchased from Amazon (they refunded me & allowed me to keep the book) Apparently you will only get the flexi (with standard edn) or 7" (with the Deluxe edn) if you buy directly from Z2 comics - I've been in touch with them.
  13. while we're on the topic of plosin, I checked the site recently but there appears to be no mention of the tracks that were on the flexidisc or 7" that came with the recent Charlie Parker graphic novel "Chasin' The Bird". I've still not found what tracks are present on these (I've heard they may be previously unreleased live JATP? recordings)
  14. Just found the Jazz In Britain site while searching for the Hayes double CD & to my dismay there have been two Joe Harriott (Vinyl only & digital download) releases in the past 6 months (since July 2020) & have already sold out (what do you expect with runs of 250 & 350). I can't believe it - they could at least pressed 500 to 1000. Really bummed out here. Surprised these releases were not mentioned on this site (or did I miss it?) https://jazzinbritain.org/product/chronology-live-1968-69-joe-harriott/ https://jazzinbritain.org/product/the-michael-garrick-septet-featuring-joe-harriott-at-short-notice/
  15. would love to know the source material for the CVsD ICP reissues. I have bought a couple of them (Yi Yole & Groupcomposing). I also have the ICP box set they sound identical (including timings) to the equivalent ones from the big box. Are they using/leasing the ICP masters(?) that were used to create the box. I actually sent John (Corbett) an email a couple of years back regarding this but got no response
  16. AFAIK all (or the vast majority) Australian 7" singles & EPs came with the small center-hole - I've never seen an aussie "large center-hole" 7"
  17. Cheers, good to know
  18. most definitely Lithuania (Vilnius)
  19. that's awful - RIP John he was only 66 https://www.freejazzblog.org/2021/01/john-russell-1954-2021.html
  20. Lord lists this single Lew McCreary (tb) David Dyson (b) replace Lester Robertson, Leroy Vinnegar, Modesto Duran out, Bud Shank (fl-1) added Los Angeles, January 8, 1964 Aram Pacific Jazz PJ80, CDP7-93414-2 [CD] Caprichos (1) Pacific Jazz PJ80, CDP7-93414-2 [CD], A-100 (33rpm) (ed) Eric Pacific Jazz PJ80, CDP7-93414-2 [CD], B-100 (45rpm) (ed) Note: Pacific Jazz PJ80(mono) = ST80(stereo). A promotional 45 single for radio (Pacific Jazz 100) was issued with edited versions as shown with some studio chatter and section rehearsals. The master tape of the rehearsal sequences no longer exist. (Source : Mosaic MD5-198 [CD] liner notes). All above titles also on Mosaic MD5-198 [CD].
  21. has a track on it that's only had a digital (CD) release in this set ie "Don't Get Sassy" from Jazz Wave Ltd On Tour, Vol. 1 - AFAIK this LP has never made it to CD.
  22. Would have worked in the Mosaic Select days - 5LPs on 3CDs Loved the cover to the 4CD JH Compilation from 1993
  23. I have America's #1 Band, all the Mosaics, The Alternative Takes Series plus the Decca set (for Old Testament Basie) but to complete the gaps & picked up the Past Perfect 10 CD set in the early 2000s - they were going for a song (I think I paid round $15 Aus for the whole set. The material ranges from 1939 to 1951 & covers Okeh/Columbia/RCA-Victor. I know it's not the best of quality but it's on par with the classics series (I think the CDs in the box duplicate to a large extent the Classics releases). Also "The Alternative Takes" series by the Austrian Neatwork label, 6 volumes running from 1936 to 1952 - these actually complement the French Classics series (actually mentions that on the CD slicks) I always hoped for a Basie Columbia/Okeh Mosaic but I think it would have been too large - there was talk about a few years back here
  24. My two sons are heavily involved in the music scene (all styles including jazz) here in Brisbane & Australia and many of their friends are into the Blue Note label & especially Lee Morgan. I'd say mainstream young Australia have likely never heard of him but people here in the know are really hip to him through word of mouth - nothing to do with any advertising especially utilising the Sidewinder as their soundtrack. Some of them have even seen the doco "I called him Morgan" - we have it on Netflix here
