can't stop listening!! iPhone & UE Boom speaker - sounds like I'm there

That's what I'm banking on

21 of the tracks are from "The Famous Door" while the last, "One O'Clock Jump" (much poorer SQ) is from the legendary "Randall's Island" concert. The download liner notes claim "there are two more selections, but the discs have deteoriated to the point of almost inaudibility". Pity they didn't release these other two (see below) just for historical purposes & as Jan Evensmo comments, who cares about the SQ

just downloaded the 22 titles & booklet & it looks like all my Christmases have come at once - I'm in Basie/Lestorian heaven So many stunning LY solos & SQ amazingly good Got to be the release of the year for me - IMHO this outdoes the Larry Young set & that was at the top of my list until just now Just wish it had been released in CD or LP format

Spending a week in Paris (Sept 2-9) & any info regarding things "jazzy" (best record shops, jazz venues, historical sites, upcoming concerts etc) would be most appreciated I've already done a bit of research online - found a few things but "insider" knowledge can't be beaten Will actually be in Europe for most of September - Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome from mid to late Sept then Helsinki (there's a Storyville Club here) for 3 days (24-26 Sept) Any advice regarding these locations would also be great Thanks in advance

Squatty Roo was also released on the Gillespie Verve/Philips Mosaic set

Savoy set coming from Mosaic
romualdo replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
what about National material (eg Eckstine) that was re-released on Savoy - is that going to be in the 10CD set? If I can recall correctly there were a number of unreleased Chaloff Savoy alternates circulating - remember reading about this a number of years ago - correct me if I'm wrong here (may have been someone else)- 153 replies

Have just tried to modify it, seeing I was the one who started the thread but I don't think i'm able to do so - does it have to be a moderator? -
Ellington Mosaic (Brunswick) box ERROR (now corrected)
romualdo replied to romualdo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I did make a copy of that DEMS article in 2011 & have kept it in the Mosaic box & actually went back to that article the other day when I noticed what I thought was the anomaly mentioned above. Anyway, it looks like I didn't listen closely enough - the two alternate takes on the Mosaic set are definitely different - confirmed by multiple listenings & looking at waveforms through Audacity. The reason why the Neatwork versions sounded different was due to poor sonic quality (the Mosaic versions sound so much better/cleaner) & take C being slower than the Mosaic version, hence the longer timing. I also put both of these tracks through Audacity & both takes did coincide with their counterparts in the Mosaic set. Sorry all for the bum steer. -
Ellington Mosaic (Brunswick) box ERROR (now corrected)
romualdo replied to romualdo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I have to say I stand corrected - what gave it away from me was the trumpet solos at 2:40 - they are quite audibly different - that is for your two versions & mine also - put the two tracks through audacity & there are variations in the wave forms between the two. Generally though the two tracks sound very similar ie start & end sound identical. Why is the version on the Neatwork CD so different & Ellingtonia website omits one version from the Mosaic box? -

I agree - 3rd or more Then why do the alternate takes on the Neatwork CD sound so different (plus have different timings - 3:09 vs 3:16 on my computer) I've shot off an email to Mosaic - see what they have to say. -

Just listened again - the trumpet solos at 1:27 sound identical (tracks 21 & 22) -

AFAIK - As far as I know Thanks for the update - hadn't used the Ellingtonia site before (looks comprehensive) - I've been using DEMS/DESOR - sad to see the cessation of this great resource - hopefully it will get "kick started" again -
Wasn't sure whether to place this in Mosaic or Discography categories but here goes I've just noticed that the two alternate takes of Blackbird Melody, pt 2 (Disc 4, tracks 21 & 22) appear identical audibly (& timing 3:06) on the Mosaic set - can anyone else confirm that? On The Neatwork CD "Duke Ellington Alternative Takes, Vol. 4 (33-36)" the two alternates sound very different & have varying timings - tk B (3:05) & tk C (3:12). Looks like Mosaic used both alternate takes B in their set!! This hasn't been mentioned at the DEMS site AFAIK.

Fascinating!! (at least it's not April 1st) going to try this on some of my discs that don't play (If I can remember which ones they are). So, this works on both CDr's & commercial discs?
-
that makes sense - The FMR CD booklet looked cheap - often wondered if it was legit - the CD does not appear to be a CDr
-
I have an FMR CD of Morning Glory - was released in 1995

Rare free jazz CDs - Brotzmann & Braxton

Someone should snap up the FMP double "Live In Berlin" - highly recommended IMHO live at the "Quartier Latin" (Free Music Market 1971) - was originally released as 3 FMP LPs -
That's good that they're are completing some of the artists - will have to add these to my list BTW, "Windward" Passages was in the second Murray box A Bobby Bradford set would be nice IMHO - that would include 2 John Carter releases (4 discs in toto)

Just had a listen - it's also present on my copy - gotta listen closely as it could be easy to miss

Does anyone have a current email contact for Hazel - I attempted to contact her a few months back (last September) but have had no reply as of yet ogunrecords@googlemail.com -> is this still current? Where on Facebook is this posting - couldn't find anything re this new release after multiple searches
