  1. Tina Brooks on tour with Ray Charles in South America - _O-Genio Ray Charles 1963 - Live In Brazil (DVD) it's also been loaded onto YouTube I'm surprised there is no footage of Hank with Miles Davis (he was heavily filmed, wasn't he?)
  2. loved the Verve Elites but other favs were the Black Vogue Digipak Series & the french America series (Lacy, Waldron, Braxton, Shepp, Shorter, NYA4/Rudd, Bley, Thornton etc)
  3. All of the above plus Cecil Taylor live in Berlin 1988, Complete Keynote (LP), Holiday Columbia, Reinhardt Complete French 40CD Dolphy & Rollins Prestige, Evans & Monk Riverside, Vandermark V - Alchemia This could go on & on
  4. Dan, are you aware that shipping is free when purchasing over 60 euros from Jazz Messengers
  5. Just wondering if Rudy's Englewood Cliffs Studio still exists or has it been disassembled since his passing? If it is still extant is it open for inspection?
  6. My copy was shipped from Spain (Jazz Messengers) this morning - just got email confirmation
  7. will get mine from Jazz Messengers (free shipping above 60 euros for international orders)
  8. wonderful news - would rather buy it from jazz messengers than HMV Japan
  9. wondering if it's going to be released on the Dutch Jazz Archive label too?
  10. has anyone mentioned this release (55 Records Japan) due for April 26 - looking at other 55 Records discs it looks like this may be a Dutch Jazz Archives release Anyone know more about this? Check the Mobley You Tube link below
  11. highly recommended IMHO (any Warne is worthwhile) got my copy from Jazz Messengers (Spain)
  12. noticed quite a bit of clarinet too but did Herschel also play that instrument or was it just Lester?
  13. can't stop listening!! iPhone & UE Boom speaker - sounds like I'm there
  14. That's what I'm banking on
  15. 21 of the tracks are from "The Famous Door" while the last, "One O'Clock Jump" (much poorer SQ) is from the legendary "Randall's Island" concert. The download liner notes claim "there are two more selections, but the discs have deteoriated to the point of almost inaudibility". Pity they didn't release these other two (see below) just for historical purposes & as Jan Evensmo comments, who cares about the SQ
  16. just downloaded the 22 titles & booklet & it looks like all my Christmases have come at once - I'm in Basie/Lestorian heaven So many stunning LY solos & SQ amazingly good Got to be the release of the year for me - IMHO this outdoes the Larry Young set & that was at the top of my list until just now Just wish it had been released in CD or LP format
  17. Thanks Flurin - it's going to be supersaturated art & architecture, both of which we both love but the big bonus for me will be visiting the Ducati motorcycle factory & museum in Bologna (been riding motorcycles since the late 70's - Ducati, Gilera, BMW - I'm a sucker for the euro machines).
  18. Spending a week in Paris (Sept 2-9) & any info regarding things "jazzy" (best record shops, jazz venues, historical sites, upcoming concerts etc) would be most appreciated I've already done a bit of research online - found a few things but "insider" knowledge can't be beaten Will actually be in Europe for most of September - Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome from mid to late Sept then Helsinki (there's a Storyville Club here) for 3 days (24-26 Sept) Any advice regarding these locations would also be great Thanks in advance
  19. Squatty Roo was also released on the Gillespie Verve/Philips Mosaic set
  20. The whole first album IMHO (just called "Suicide") Ghost Rider, Rocket U.S.A, Cheree, Johnny, Girl, Frankie Teardrop, Che Not sure how many of these are on youtube?
  21. what about National material (eg Eckstine) that was re-released on Savoy - is that going to be in the 10CD set? If I can recall correctly there were a number of unreleased Chaloff Savoy alternates circulating - remember reading about this a number of years ago - correct me if I'm wrong here (may have been someone else)
  22. One here - big fan of Suicide - still play their vinyl My son texted me this morning with the news - we were only talking about the duo the other day Didn't realise he was that age (78) - thought he was in his 60's
  23. just corrected the title - many thanks for the tip
  24. Have just tried to modify it, seeing I was the one who started the thread but I don't think i'm able to do so - does it have to be a moderator?
