Have just found this amazing footage of Joe Harriott soloing with the Stan Tracey Big Brass (1969) First live recording I've ever seen of Joe
-
Which Rivers is in the set? I didn't manage to work that out... Streams
-
RIP Frank perchance, yesterday I received the Basie live Roulette set - lots of listening & here's to you
-
Just picked up a copy of the Basie live Roulette Mosaic (via ebay) Instead of a hand written number in the booklet we have the initials/letters WBGO -> does this refer to Newark jazz radio I presume this was a promo sent to the station - anyone come across this before Musn't have got any play as the discs were still sealed
-
What's the chance of a Volume 2? - really hoping for that (there is plenty of material for a few volumes)

Joe McPhee - Nation Time: The Complete Recordings

Very Nice not listed on Dusty Groove yet (best place to get the Corbett vs Dempsey releases) Looks like it will supersede the 1999 Atavistic single CD release -
Welcome to the site The 7CD Mosaic set "Columbia Jazz Piano Moods Sessions" was an immediate thought http://web.archive.org/web/20070818030229/http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=199-MD-CD It's out of print but is currently available on ebay & Amazon - bit pricey at present but I have seen it go for significantly lower prices in the past http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-COLUMBIA-JAZZ-PIANO-MOODS-SESSIONS-MOSAIC-7-CD-BOX-MD7-199-SEALED-CDs-OOP-/140974316815?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item20d2b95d0f

This link has a history. They're British. I've watched the whole series (would download it as soon as it was aired in the US) but can't seem to recall this Yep, very groooovy & cheeeesy has a Scott Walker ambiance in parts

ditto!! bought in 1993

go for the Odyssey set Ah yes, but is it available anywhere? buy it through Discogs / Vogel-Music-Sales (that's where I bought my copy recently) There are still copies available http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=2219594&ev=rb

Does anyone know the details of the "falling out" that occurred between EP & DB (in the late 70's or 80's?) - has this been covered on any of the forums here? Was it over musical "philosophical/theoretical differences"? Does Ben Watson discuss this in his book "Derek Bailey & The Story Of Free Improvisation"

???? Been there many times, and they have always been good to me as a customer. A weak joke - I mean the mind games over whether they have that disc in stock... I've had this experience with them a number of times - disc is listed in stock, I've placed an order only to be told that the item is not available I now email them re availability prior to placing an order

Sorry but no - minimal session notes for this recording except to say that it was recorded in both mono & stereo plus there was a three hour rehearsal at Nola Studio the day before the session

I've attached a scan of the "Blue Train" session taken from the JC Reference This is much more detailed than the BN Discographies (1st or 2nd editions) - don't think we can use these as "gospel" re what was unissued/rejected It's interesting to also note that Porter et all credit Michael Cuscuna for the session details (ie from the "horses mouth") - he would know about these unissued "alternates" It's probably likely that the Japanese are adding titles (alternates) that MC would not have considered adequate for release in the 80's/90's & 2000's Wonder if they consulted him Looks like they'll be releasing tk 7 of Blue Train

Anyone getting the Van Morrison "Moondance" Box set?
romualdo replied to jazzkrow's topic in New Releases
Import CDs has this for $44.99 I'll probably hold off on this - maybe see what the Australian price will be (they sold the Joni Mitchell box, another WB set, at rock bottom prices here) Wonder why they didn't do Astral Weeks first? - that's my favourite (probably wasn't as much a commercial success as Moondance but that's an album (Astral Weeks) I can listen to ad infinitum & not become weary) -
I have volume 2. Great price, nice booklet, nice sounds. I skipped volume 1 because I already have most of those, and I believe I have everything on volume 3. I would not hesitate to buy these volumes if you don't already have the music. I have both volumes and they're excellent. Good sound and a really informative booklet. Even though I have most of what's on Vol. 3 I'll be getting it. I have both & am very happy with SQ & presentation - I wonder if the producers had access to original source material There's also a JOF Chet Baker 3CD Jazz On Film set (first in the "Jazz Icons" series) coming out in December (not listed on the JOF site yet but Amazon UK have it penned for release in early Dec) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jazz-Film-Chet-Baker-ICON-Featuring/dp/B00FXWC1NO/ref=sr_1_5?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1382397859&sr=1-5&keywords=jazz+on+film It may be worth waiting for the Baker to be released & JOF will probably do a double offer like the first 2 in the series (that's how I picked up my copies last year)

Oops!! - Should have pre read before I posted - That's what I meant
-
I think the alternate take (Don' Cry, Just Sigh) is on the Third Stream CD, not Slice Of The Top The CD is still available (CD Japan still has it listed)
-
What a bargain!! I've just ordered the Lake (15.39E), Gaslini (19.8E), Bley (18.9E), Cyrille (16.25E) & Farmer (15.03E) - with the bulk buy the shipping comes down to 3.50 euros per box (to Australia) plus the VAT reduction Thanks for the tip - don't use Amazon France very often

Hearing & digging Baker, Rogers, Giuffre, Edwards, Hawes............ & especially reading Ted Gioia's book West Coast Jazz.

Almost 3 years from my initial post, I finally decided to go for it Just received the "Odyssey" set - eventually sourced it through Discogs (Vogel Music International) - you're given the option to "make an offer", which I did & it was immediatly accepted plus there were no shipping charges (to Australia!!) Extremely happy with the SQ -> much better than the unauthorised Cadence double CD release "Collection" that I have (this is a needle drop of the original 1985 double LP) - the complete contents are on the first & part of the second discs of "Odyssey" Disc 6, a self interview (recorded circa 2000) is fascinating & shows BD to be a highly perceptive/erudite person. Highly stimulating & enjoyable music (pour moi) - loving it!!

Double whammy for me - big fan of both Harper & Weston who's releasing it? will definitely be grabbing this

Dan the titles (3) from the proposed TRLP 8 (Adams/Fuller) have been released but under Coltrane or Chambers (BN2LP 451-H2: High Step, BN CD 84437: Chambers Music & the Chambers Mosaic Select) - timing for these 3 tracks comes to just over 26mins -> a bit short for a 12" LP Cuscuna mentions this LP in the Mosaic Select booklet "Trane's Strain" was the only title released at the time , on the Transition sampler "Jazz In Transition" (LP 30); the other 2 titles ("High Step" & Nixon, Dixon & Yates blues") were first released (mid 70's) on the BN towfer "High Step" I don't think the LP (#8) was ever released - Were there more titles (unreleased)? - I doubt it (MC would have released them by now)
