  1. Confront Recordings have just released a 6CD Alan Skidmore retrospective, the vast majority of the material previously unreleased https://confrontrecordings.bandcamp.com/merch/alan-skidmore-a-supreme-love-6xcd-box-set-twenty-page-booklet

  3. If it's Nov 3 then Pharoah Sanders & Julian Priester should be present - they were absent on Nov 1 & 2
  4. according to Campbell/Trent "Earthly Recordings of Sun Ra, 2nd edn" the Arkestra (minus Ra) played at Koncepts Cultural Gallery (Oakland) on Feb 1 & 2, 1991 then with Ra from Nov 1-3 (ie 5 different dates) Is there a date mentioned on the DVD? if so I can give you more musician details
  5. https://jazz.centerstagestore.com/pages/john-coltrane wanna buy a tee, tote bag or mug ? also https://www.npr.org/2023/05/31/1179098682/john-coltrane-eric-dolphy-village-gate-1961-lost-album?
  6. That was beautiful - what a gorgeous, gracious & humble multi-talented person Bill is He reminded me of another contemporaneous bass player Peter Ind
  7. The single got to #29 here in Australia (Oct 8, 1966)
  8. In the early 90s a friend here in Brisbane showed me his Mosaics (DeFranco, Grant Green, Bechet) just as I was getting serious about jazz (had dabbled with Davis, Coltrane previously) - he also gave me a few Joe Henderson LPs (80s pressings). I was converted - first sets were the Mingus & Taylor Candids in 93 (I was 36)
  9. I was lucky enough to see Stan & band here in Brisbane, Australia circa 1996 - may have been promoting the ST Octet "Portraits Plus" release (fantastic album IMHO) - I know Art & Clark were present. I even taped the concert - still have it somewhere
  10. Rickie has a special importance here in Australia but most of our population would not be aware that she (& Becker) wrote "The Horses". It was a massive hit (got to #1) here in Australia covered by Darryl Braithwaite (ex 70s pop band Sherbert) in 1990. It has become an australian musical meme & absolutely adored by my children's generation (20 yo's+). The vast majority of australians will claim that Braithwaite wrote it. I heard her perform it plus a number of her composition at the Blues & Roots Festival (Byron Bay) not that long ago. BTW that's Ricki on the inside & back cover of Tom Waits' "Blue Valentine" LP
  11. I hear you re the music & the unique cover art work - I ended up getting (157 CDs) almost the entire catalogue when Japanese Solid did a complete label CD release round 10 years ago. It was released in 5 batches of approximately 30 between 2012 & 2014 plus there were a number of bonus CDs available only in Japan (a friend there was able to source them for me after I sent her my collected coupons that came with the standard CDs) https://www.discogs.com/label/732399-Bethlehem-Album-Collection-1000 So, I'd say I've got the Bethlehem fetish too
  12. my copy (Australia bound) arrived yesterday I'm very happy with the SQ & the fact that they are transferring from the raw master reels. Will be interested to hear the comparison between the "tweaked" version of Noissesprahs (SharpSession) from the original 2LP/2CD "Live At The IUCC" compared to the "raw" version on Vol. 6 I'll probably have my sets shipped in two batches of 5
  13. In 2020 Octave-Lab/Ultra-Vybe (Japan) released all 3 versions of "A Message From The Tribe" (amongst other Tribe releases) - The "Message...." double CD contained the B side of the original 1972 version, full 1973 second version plus the 1974 remastered/remixed version. The A side of the original 72 version was released as bonus tracks on the "An Evening With The Devil" CD. A much much cheaper way of getting this music if you don't mind the digital medium On current conversion rates that box will set me back over $Aus700 (not including shipping) - it's not in my price range for what you actually get https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTLCD-2475 https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTLCD-2476
  14. Oh yeah!!, I second that emotion Carr's interpretation of Oldham & Penn's "Dark End Of The Street" is one of the best - The UK Ace "Goldwax Singles" compilation is essential for any soul collection. His 90s recording "Take Me To The Limit" is a stunner Also shout outs to O.V. Wright, Syl Johnson & Otis Clay
  15. Jutta has been "boxed" - Be! Jazz released a 6CD+DVD set including a massive casebound book covering her life plus her artwork a few years back https://www.bear-family.com/hipp-jutta-the-life-and-art-of-jutta-hipp-6-cd-1-dvd-box.html Be! Jazz label may be a bit suss but this set has been so well done - doesn't have the look of a cheap "knock off" - the whole production looks like a labour of love. The transfer quality is excellent, the book is stunning.
  16. Thanks for the link - what a fulfilled life & wonderful partnership with Ingrid/"Sertso" RIP Karl
  17. Sam has previously released CDs but far & few between ie Nathan's Peace Treaty with 2 extra tracks https://samrecords.fr/produit/nathan-davis-sextet-peace-treaty-1965-cd-2-unissued-tracks/
  18. looks like Sam has pressed the Davis set three times, initially a run of 1500 (2018 - when I picked up my copy), a second run of 1000 in 2019 & now a third of 2000 in 2021 which is what DG will be selling. So, a total of 4500 so far - there must be quite a demand for Nathan's output.
  19. way too expensive IMHO especially for material that has already been previously released - they could have added the still unreleased Copenhagen concert from the same tour
  20. Been listening to Horace et al for over 25 years & have virtually all of his released output & a few unreleased live recordings (FLAC files of live concerts i sourced a number of years ago - with Steve Lacy, Vancouver 93, with Carter/Bradford, Austria 87 & Germany 92, with Blythe, California 91, with Arkestra & Teddy Edwards, Chicago Jazz Festival, 93, HT Octet, Italy 87 The only release that has eluded me is the LA Octet recording on the Japanese Americana label - never seen a copy of this for sale - have been looking for a number of years now - wondered if it had actually been physically released (CD). The lineup is very similar to the live Verona, Italy concert I have - they are only 3 months apart - Verona has Arthur Blythe on tenor whilst Rastine Calhoun replaces Arthur on the later LA recording.
  21. I'm a sucker for Tapscott recordings - went for the subscription (will also help with shipping costs to Australia) second the merging of the two (related) threads
  22. Shipping notice today (from Nimbus West) to Australia. Also, got in stock notice from Dusty Groove but now OOS (temporarily?) on their website https://www.dustygroove.com/item/141973/Pan-Afrikan-People-s-Arkestra:Live-At-IUCC-11-26-78-Church-Recordings-Vol-1-2CD-set?sf=arkestra&incl_oos=1&incl_cs=1&kwfilter=arkestra&sort_order=artist
  23. I'm sourcing mine (Rivers & Henderson) via JPC (Germany) - very reasonable shipping charges to Australia (just over 10 euros for those CDs plus the Edelhagen WDR Orchestra triple CD set)
  24. The new JH CD with extra tracks is now available (again) via Jazz Messengers https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/95684/joe-henderson/the-complete-an-evening-w-joe-henderson?mc_cid=5c37a815ad&mc_eid=5c16ab7b46
  25. RIP Ahmad - another legend gone Coincidentally I've been playing the recently released 4CDs "Live At The Penthouse" on rotation since receiving them two weeks ago - superb music Highly recommended IMHO
