  2. I'll get me a copy, that's for sure! But the Mwandishi book first ...
  3. I had to take a second look, even a third, but still ...
  4. So that was you who beat me to it ....
  5. I felt the same until the box was in my hands ... my feelings are with ya.
  6. Enjoyed disc IV earlier this evening - Pres was the greatest!
  7. A copy of the Wes CD is on its way to my mailbox ....
  8. I can't understand why they released this in so limited quantities - they should have known better.
  9. Sorry, no cover to bee seen ... Okay, one of those cases where I have to copy the URL of the image and load it in a sepratae tab before it will display in the post ... Ray Anthony ...
  10. A new issue from Jazzline with vault material from German radio stations. Thelonious Monk in Berlin 1961 with Rouse, Ore, & Dunlop Martial Solal with Pettiford & Clarke & special guest Lucky Thompson Live in Essen 1959 Due for release in May ...
  11. 'Nother case was the Bulgarian Jazz Quartet Focus '65 with Simeon Shterev and Milcho Leviev who were supposed to open for Herbie Mann in 1970 - the Wolfgang Dauner Trio had been called as a sub as the Bulgarians had been denied visas.
  12. I once took the ride to Jazzkeller in Frankfurt to hear Philly Joe Jones - there was a note on the door he had cancelled scant hours before the show for health reasons. There was a fan at the door just as disappointed making remarks about substance problems ... it wasn't long before he died. I really would have loved to see him play live.
  13. I kept a list for almost twenty years, but could care less about pulling it out - I still remember the first: Oscar Peterson with sam Jones and Bobby Durham in Munich, and the second: Herbie Mann with Sonny Sharrock, Steve Marcus, Miroslav Vitous and Bruno Carr in Frankfurt, both in 1970. Most memorable? No idea .... right now I think it's not that important, especially if there's nobody here to come close to what Brownie or Chuck Nessa or Valerie B.have seen.
  14. Jamal's latest, with Reginald, Veal, Herlin Riley, and Monolo Badrena. Bought it for Riley in the first place, who does not disappoint. I must admit I like Jamal's 1950's and 1960's playing best - there is a little too much focus on the piano, although there is plenty of interaction. Maybe it's the recording balance ... This was recommended to me by an old friend - one sassy, sexy album, looking back to the 1960's but very contemporary, the band grooves like mad.
  15. The Steig with Zeitlin may be the only Steig record I never heard - I will check it out on your recommendation.
  16. Tanit - moscato di Pantelleria, along with some grissini di noci or tarallini ...
  17. I've got too little time to listen carefully, but sure would like to hear your selections - DL, please.
  18. Asha clearly is one of the five all time greatest jazz flute albums, IMHO - it is the first on my list. Perfect all the way through. I'd have a hard time listing the next four ...
  19. I recommend The Blue Tomato, nice little club with good local live bands. http://www.bluetomato.cc/
