  1. Amen! What an artist! There's not too many original voices left today. Especially on the mallets.
  2. Being released this week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rHV78EQaMc
  3. I've got a copy. Haven't listened to it in years, but I remember digging it. I'd like to hear this new trio as well. Love Swallow and Previte.
  4. This may be of interest to fusion fans. The first six Brand X albums on 4 CDs. Cheesy cover, but a lot of music for around 22 dollars. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00O9K8WS4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3454CGEDD1Z0H&coliid=I3IWY0ZAF4I08V
  5. This 2 disc set is a fine introduction to Berg's music Also included are the Three Orchestral Pieces, Seven Early Songs, piano sonata, and four pieces for clarinet and piano.
  6. I'll never get started buying those ugly black Mosaic boxes. I like compact, easily transportable packaging like the Black Saint/Soul Note and ECM boxes. I have the second re-issue of the Miles 60s Quintet box, and the packaging is terrible. The bare discs are pressed against each other and wedged into a plastic tray. The first box I ever purchased was the Complete Mercury Recordings of Roland Kirk. I'd never shell out over a hundred dollars these days, but I'm glad I bought it. Classical boxes are a no brainer. There are so many nice sets for very little money. Too many to mention.

    Al Shorter

I've never heard any of his records, but he's on one of my favorite WS albums, The All Seeing Eye. And I'm sorry I missed out on the Marion Brown Quartet CD. Always wanted a copy of that one.
  8. Playing the Hilary Hahn Schoenberg CD now. This is a superb recording!
  9. I bought their Litania Sibilante CD many years ago, but never really took to it. I love modern big bands, and they are amazing players, but it's a bit too hyper technical and over the top for my taste.
  10. My favorite piano concertos are by Bartok. I also like Prokofiev's No. 2, Barber, and Schnittke's concerto for piano and strings. I don't care much for romantic concertos of any kind. As for violin concertos, Ligeti is probably my favorite. I also enjoy Dutilleux, Henze, Norgard, Berg, Schoenberg. I should give William Schuman's a listen. I'm a big fan of his symphonies.
  11. Those are tops in my collection. Yusef Lateef was one of the great unsung masters.
  12. ^^^ Does this mean you bought the record? How's the music?
  13. I'm sure the prices will come down. I can wait. It would be highly beneficial to the listener if they included a booklet with readable type, but I guess it's not going to happen.
  14. ^^^^ That's the first E/O album I bought about 15 years ago. Their version of Red is ok, but the Miles/Ellington medley is sublime.
  15. I read about this album in Downbeat. An amateur recording featuring a bunch of so so percussionists, and an uninvited quest musician who took it upon himself to sit in. I believe I'll pass on this.
  16. Dream Letter is great! Very well recorded too.
