How is it (performance and sound). Is it Smile, or other material?
-
Isn't this a silent film with the video turned ON ?

A couple of notes: 1 - I have bought the CD's and some of the downloads in this batch, and the sound quality is superb, well beyond what I would have thought possible. I am upgrading items I already have to get the greatly improved fidelity, in some cases even buying downloads of material I already own on older CD's. 2 - I contacted Mack Avenue, and they are planning to release more CD's of Strata-East material later this year, though no details available yet.

Horace Tapscott & Pan Afrikan People Arkestra - Live at IUCC 11/2678 2CD

While I'd love to see more, I'm thankful for what they did get issued/reissued during the CD era. Never dreamed I would see the titles I have from them. Tom Albach, and Matt after him, surely did this latter-day work as a labor of love rather than a big profit-making venture? And really, is there that much essential music from the Nimbus West Catalog that has not gotten reissued? I know there are some Tapscott titles (especially solo), and a few stray L.A.-based titles from others that have not made it back out (and I don't much care about the later European recordings, which are a whole different thing), but the bulk of it has been made available to those who jumped on it. I celebrate and give thanks for a glass that is 80% full. -
Yes, that's the front cover - I showed the back cover which had the album info on it.

That is a great album. Some of his 60's Verve stuff is superb.

Kenny Burrell - On View At The Five Spot Cafe (Complete?)

And 'V.S.O.P. The Quintet'. and 'An Evening With Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea'. The big 2013 Hancock Complete Columbia Recordings box is an enlightening listen (even if many of the latter commercial albums are dismal), as it gives a full picture of what he was recording in each era, with many of the best albums being released only in Japan when they were new. 34 CD's, and you can still get it for under $200 on discogs or ebay. -
I love this one, means a lot more to me than any Roxy Music or Phil Manzanera solo album: And this one is also really good:

I've owned this box twice, but had no need to keep it either time (the second purchase was for like $10, used it to revisit some tracks that I never got on individual CD's). It serves well as a sampler of their Atlantic years, not as well for their Prestige years. I'll take five hours of Milt Jackson any time, fall somewhere in the middle on John Lewis. Clear yes for $7, reserved no for $28, depending on your need for MJQ. Lots of Euro PD packages of their work through 1962 available.

Also available via MP3. I had the Mosaic, but couldn't resist the crazy money it started selling for.

Available in theory. Good luck finding one.

Thanks for the tip and congrats on the progress people are making! I'm also working on better health and showing good results, though not as dramatic as you champions! Great success in finding and eliminatingc"hidden" sugar to get my A1C under control.

I own the Dolphy and Hill shirts also. Very well made. I especially like the Hill design.

Great album, amazing sound quality for an unearthed 1957 live recording on an "off" label. The one I have has a different (better) cover on a slightly differently named label, but same material.

Charles Mingus, Kenny Dorham, Freddie Hubbard for RSD 2025

Agreed on all points! -
I always appreciated her ca. 1990's work on Somethin' Else/Blue Note, own a good bit of it, which is unusual for me to go in so heavily on albums from that era. The 1994 live at the Village Vanguard albums were especially good.
