  2. You should also look at Emotiva, based in Tennessee. I have their cd player, which is fantastic, and they have had excellent reviews of their amps, which has a lot of quality for the price. http://www.emotiva.com/
  3. ???? Been there many times, and they have always been good to me as a customer. It's great but I'd go for solo albums like Domestic & Public Pieces (Quark/Emanem), Lot 74 (Incus) or Improvisations (Cramps) to get you started. Not to mention Ballads & Standards on Tzadik, which are lovely. As far as group music is concerned, I'm personally a big fan of the early edition of Iskra 1903. I forgot, I do have some early Islra 1903.
  4. Whether they have it or not, I'm going to DMG.
  5. They may not have inputed the info. Who knows? There will be other things to catch my attention (and wallet)......
  6. When I'm up in NYC tomorrow I'll look for it (a trip to Downtown Music Gallery is mandatory).
  7. Need to know your price point. You can go to www.audioadvisor.com and check out what's available. They generally stock quality equipment for those looking for thing better than what's in the box stores.
  8. Is this the one Derek Bailey album to own? I don't have any of his stuff.
  9. Received my box today. Popped the "last" disc, the remastered Wilson/Fripp disc of Red, and it is the best sounding version. Now for the live material......
  10. EPSON is supposed to be working on updating their drivers for Mavericks. I upgraded my Macmini to Mavericks with no issues.
  11. Going on a tangent, I have been very happy with the pair of Anti-cables hooked up to my Conrad Johnson set up. It took a while for them to break in, but when they did, it made a difference. Am looking at Morrow cables for my Dahlquists.
  12. The high res downloads I have heard recently have trumped all the cd iterations that I have encountered (have not heard SHM Blue Notes however).
  13. You might want to take a look at these: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm I never used them, but when I was looking for cables myself, this brand constantly came up in chat forums, mostly recommended. If your stereo is just "average," these may be the best you can do for the price.
  14. 1. Not wasting time on that. 2. "It is in the character of very few men to honor without envy a friend who has prospered." - Aeschylus aka the Clusterfuck which was a result of envy. I went into the details in one of the Mathew Shipp threads. 1. Of course you wouldn't. 2. Reading the links was interesting. Thanks. 1. Didn't wast time because I don't think Monk went through the motions like Parker does. I also don't think Parker is in the same level as Monk. I guess you think differently. As in, it just came across as baiting as a response. 2. You're welcome. No baiting was implied. I don't do that kind of thing. And no, I don't compare Parker to Monk. But I find them equally interesting to listen to. With regards to the links provided, I stand by the notion that artists can be dicks. I don't know their personalities; never met Ibarra nor Parker; nor can really understand why things fell apart. Could be jealousy, could be sexism, could be something else. She could be a pain in the ass for all I know. I love their music, and I have seen them both live. I have a slew of Ibarra cds, as well as Parker's. But I won't piss on whatever either one is doing musically because of personal conflicts. As a music fan I don't care about those kind of things.
  15. Just received this disc, I find it to be incredibly moving and a deeply personal statement from an excellent musician:
  16. Regarding Track 2 -- a crazy thought came to me. Anita Baker? Although it will end up being someone like Abbey Lincoln..... Track 3 -- Hal Galper?
  17. The box was "dispatched" this morning. This will be a marathon listening. If only I had received it this past week; it would have been perfect while on furlough and stuck in the house during the driving rainstorm we have had these past few days.
  18. Sorry, meant the Threadgill.
  19. 1. Not wasting time on that. 2. "It is in the character of very few men to honor without envy a friend who has prospered." - Aeschylus aka the Clusterfuck which was a result of envy. 20. I paid a dollar for mine at a local store that just didn't know any better.
  21. Like Blakey did for Monk? I have no knowledge of the clusterfuck you are referring to. Artists can be dicks. It happens.
  22. Define the "I am William Parker mode." I'm curious. He's earned his acclaim.
