I've missed many a BFT, but I'm totally unwilling to miss yours, Clifford! Please sign me up for DLs!

Anyone know if this box exists and is available anywhere? It doesn't show up on Amazon. I'm huge on that period of Barbieri, but never have heard of this box until now, so I doubt if it ever got US release. I have the individual CD's, so wouldn't want to pay a ton for this, but would like to have it if available. I've not seen it opened, but from what I remember, it was most likely just a sturdy box containing the old CD editions of all his Flying Dutchmal albums (the jewel case versions, that is).

Great! I wish I could see him live in an appropriate setting (the Griffin-Solal-NHOP concert I saw didn't work quite well, Griff was drunk and Solal was bored).

Won't get such a box... but I'm getting started on buying some of the remasters, finally... just gave a first spin to the remaster of "Planet Waves" - sounds wonderful, warm and fresh and full.

You just have to perform some of that on her first Over here, we sort of found a way... I have my own room and do most of my listening in there - usually over speakers, but late at night I might as well use headphones. There were some moments when my girlfriend was severely pissed off, but I take her to some concerts now and then and while she'd never put on any jazz herself, she got more and more tolerant (however, I still can't tell in advance what she's going to like and what not... funky and electric stuff usually is too nervous but lyrical stuff and vocal jazz then is very boring, anything in between is worth a shot. I think the greatest concert we saw together was Randy Weston's trio - that was so energetic and so... what a shitty word, but authentic, yes - honest, straight and direct music, played with lots of joy and love - and that worked perfectly for her, too, in a live setting (but I bet she'd find it nervous when I'd put it on at home - or boring in case of solo recordings).

Hm, I don't want to talk anyone into buying this box, but I think it might be a good entrance point for anyone with open ears and an open mind about what music should be (or rather: anyone without too strict ideas about what it should not be). Oxley is the one musical equal that Taylor has been tolerating for many years now and is still playing with, and Parker (whom I usually don't like quite that much) is fitting in very well. This trio went under the moniker "The Feel Trio" and that describes them quite well.

Hoe Jenderson? More goodies disappearing, by the likes of Brifford Clown, Bet, Chaker, Hobby Butcherson... also one by one Onrette Coleman.

Yes, I agree with what Matthew says. The second Europe tour in 1960, with Stitt, sees Miles completely in charge of the music, soloing longer and with much more edge and poise. The main axis is Miles/Kelly, and the later too, digs into the music more thoroughly than with Coltrane. And about Carnegie Hall: it's been a while that I've played it, but isn't Mobley's solo on "No Blues" (aka "Pfrancinng") his finest outing of the night? Further, Cobb almost goes into that floating groove that night that Tony Williams would later bring to perfection. Sure, he's more powerful than usually, but I don't quite hear that much Philly Joe there.

Jim said it twice already, but let me repeat it, nevertheless: Mobley @ Carnegie Hall is burning it up!

But, if you didn't have the Hammond Five, you couldn't have the "Upright Organ Blues"! Yeah, you have a point there I was astonished by that session when I gave the Pres Mosaic a first listen a few weeks ago - have known it for several years, and the pedestrian organ is always a drawback, but Pres is in terrific shape!

Hm, I kind of forgot about the great live material on disc 2 of the Savoy set - hellyeah! The other studio dates I don't find that thrilling... but for Presophiles such as us few here, there's always some magic in his playing, regardless how improbable or unfitting the surroundings are (Glenn Hardman's Hammond Five, anyone?)

The session with Basie (on the Savoy) is among my top favorite Pres small group sessions! In general I'd recommend the Aladdin over the Savoy package, though... some awesomely great music on the Aladdin dates!

Just threw in the "Eclipse at Dawn" disc by the BoB (Berlin 1971), which starts with some great soloing by Beckett
