  1. Thanks everyone and enthusiasm for Jazz Record Center in particular. I have been there before, but was a long, long time ago.
  2. Howdy all - I am travel to New York tomorrow and looking for record store recommendations. I will mostly have time in the Village while the wife/kids are hitting book stores. Really dating myself, really, but find myself a little lost since the demise of Tower Records 😎
  3. Many years ago I became friends with a guy who "loved jazz" and our tastes seemed to intersect. I soon discovered he was one of those audiophile dudes who constantly wanted to "A/B" new to old versions of CDs (pre-vinyl craze). Although I am not immune to "upgrading" because something "sounds better" (maybe/sometimes), the A/B thing was definitely not for me. I have also nosed around the Hoffman board and find some of those discussions depressing. Nasty, snarky and pretty self-absorbed. And endless. Hundreds of pages of getting the last word in Maybe coming of age in the 70s, with cassettes 8-tracks and Radio Shack stereos, has made me easy to please, but I have found I can assemble an amazing system for a couple thousand bucks.
  4. I enjoyed listening to both Joe and his playing afterward. Sounds like a thoughtful gentleman.
  5. I love the little Wallen Bink label and bought all three of these. Yes, somewhat expensive, particularly with postage to the US. But they really are beautiful packages and something I can savor for years to come. Gave up the booze, gave up sugar, but I ain't giving up delights like this https://wallenbink.com/index.php/shop/erich-kleinshuster-6tet-orf-recordings/erich-kleinschuster-6tet-orf-wb014-015-016
  6. I like the idea of the mono LP with the booklet. Apparently not the config they are selling. I saw parts of a video where Blue Note said they are pressing "shitloads" of copies, so I can afford to wait around. BTW - any opinions on the SHM-SACD option - more on the format in general versus the specifics of this issue?

    Joe Chambers

Agree wholeheartedly on the packaging/graphics of 32 Jazz. Of course it IS the only way I actually own The Almoravid, weird plastic spine and all.

Who owns it now? Serious question.

Yes, this is what Discogs says about the label:
  10. Thanks Lon. The booklet is drawing my attention to the stereo vinyl ... which prompted my question.
  11. Any thoughts on Stereo vs. Mono (aside from the price and additional takes on the Stereo)? I have never done the "A/B" thing between Stereo and Mono. Thanks

    The Masters

    Great story, thanks for sharing!
  13. Made a modest donation- thanks for the heads up.
  14. Another vote for CD Japan. I've also had great luck with Amazon Japan.
  15. The Cars - Heartbeat City The hits can be a little annoying but some nice non-single songs.
  16. Agree, this is a very nice one.
  17. Interesting- seems more 1982 than anything. Not super-impressed with those either. How about something with photos of the artists? Sincerely, Grumpy Old Man
  18. Too bad the album cover is completely unimaginative.
  19. This forum is something else ...
  20. I don't know if there are many good sizes left, but those UNIQLO t-shirts are a huge bargain. Bought four, gave two to kids, have two more on the way. Quote this morning from my 20 year old, "I don't know who this Morgan guy is, but this is a great shirt".
  21. Saw the sizing caution late, but that just means re-arranging which kids got what. I wound up with a couple Lee XLs. Awesome bargain, quality as reported by Felser!!
  22. Rocking Lee at a 5K this am
  23. Picked this up at Record Store Day. I am lukewarm on 80s Miles, more so in the later years. But this is pretty decent, enjoyable to listen to. You definitely get the sense the band is stronger live than in studio. Miles sounds pretty good, open horn on the sides I have listened to. John Scofield is also here, so if you like him (I do) that is a nice bonus. Well recorded, fun to play loud, has some punch. There are the synth florishes, but I can ignore.
  24. Just went through it myself. I am 60, double vaxed and double boosted. A little disorientation and cough for a couple days. Ten days post first symptoms and aside from being a little sleepier than normal, all things feel normal. Gives me a real appreciation for how lucky/fortunate I am to contract under these circumstances.
