  1. Funny, for all the enthusiasm shown here for this one, it has never really resonated with me. So yes, I am probably in the "boring" camp. But perhaps what that means is that I am in the "not listening closely enough" camp. Or perhaps I am in the "I had one set of expectations and this record did not meet them" camp. But tonight I will pull it out and give it a close, objective listen. That is the great (and fun) thing about getting older ... you can give things a second or third chance and then "poof", you love it. Or, (turd sound), you still don't like it

  3. What he said. What they said.
  4. that is pretty funny
  5. Agree with your assessment - very, very cool stuff.
  6. Box duly stuffed Nice to see you are in the lead - the power of the Big O!!
  7. As I mentioned above, I really like this place. Their used jazz selection typically contains no gems, but they have some interesting new jazz vinyl. They have a great selection of rock (classic, alternative, punk, etc.) vinyl, including a nice 45 selection (new stuff mostly). Last time I was there I picked up a couple great funk compilations on CD. Very eclectic place and a great place to visit so long as your tastes extend beyond jazz.
  8. Rooster is being nice/generous. The town sucks for vinyl. Sucks. Sucks. Sucks. Love Garden in Lawrence is good, but more for pop/rock/punk than jazz. I love the place and they have a good CD selection, both new and used. But again, slim pickings on jazz. Now if you want some obscure soul/funk compilation, it is a great place. Sorry to break the news. I would focus your KC visit on BBQ instead
  9. Thanks for posting! Twas how it was! Sadly the Pendergast backlash can still be felt today, although 18th & Vine is making steady progress.
  10. Don't say I don't have your back, wayward Jayhawk (I hear she makes house calls) http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...%3Doff%26sa%3DN
  11. Apparently I could not find the "flatter thyself" button
  12. This is precisely why I do not employ such a system
  13. 50 - 60, about 2/3 of which came from the sale last summer.
  14. No kidding. I could give you a link to my amazon "recently purchased" page ... Regardless of motive, I have discovered some real gems along the way
  15. I know nothing about cooking but this sounds good! Do you throw the broccoli in boiling broth or use broth as the steaming agent?
  16. Dave Liebman's blog also has a blurb - http://liebintervals.blogspot.com/2007/06/...sjuly-2007.html Neat pic - wish it were larger!
  17. VERY interesting (I have no idea as to the answer to your question)
  18. Happy Birthday Lon!!! The very best of luck and care to you and your wife.
  19. He also had a very nice album on DIW in the last 10-15 years.
  20. even when I was a little kid back in the 60s I thought this guy was a cheeseball but I have to admit this is highly entertaining
  21. I bought something once from this guy. I was confused by the listing - thought I was getting a Contemporary lp by Sonny Simmons but what I got was a burn of that lp (with cover art) and a different CD (which was in the description, just like this Nathan Davis/Freddie Hubbard listing). I was a little annoyed - but he immediately refunded my money. His rating suggests people are OK with this - technically it seems semi-legal as you are buying one thing but getting the lp burn for free. Personally I won't buy from him again. Edit - here is that listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/SONNY-SIMMONS-rumasuma...VQQcmdZViewItem
  22. Agree on the $20 being high. A couple of these sometimes go higher (the Hutchersons, Mother Ship), but $10 to $15 is about right for most of them. Over the past year I have "filled in" my colection of Rainbows - now only missing one or two. I bet I had more fun tracking them down than the winner of this auction will!
