  1. Well I have seen enough of Adrian Gonzalez and I no longer curse the day the Red Sox didn't get Mark Texeira. After that brutal start the Bosox are just 2.5 games out of first. Maybe a little lost in the shuffle, Ortiz is off to his best start in quite a few years. In the meantime, looks like I'll get a chance to see Lackey and Matsuzaka in Pawtucket in the coming days. Is there a pitcher more difficult to watch in the majors than Dice-K?
  2. I mailed an lp to Germany about 3 weeks ago at a cost of $13.18. I believe the trip took about 10 days.
  3. Never heard him play, but if he can't act then he has fooled a lot of people for a very long time.
  4. Haven't seen this release, does Davis play bari, tenor, or both? I personally prefer him on baritone.
  5. I am sure its been alluded to on this board elsewhere, but I believe that we have Disney (among others) to thank for our Mickey Mouse treatment of copyright here in the USA.
  6. Of course I can't say with 100% certainty Len, but, I believe you are looking for Worcester, Worchester.
  7. Happy Birthday Ubu!
  8. Baritone sax man Glenn Wilson and guitarist Rory Stuart will be spending the day at Connecticut College in New London next Friday. They will end the day with a concert at 7 pm. As a longtime fan of both I will be attending. If anyone else is in the area it will be $10 well spent. You will recognize me as the out of place looking middle age guy.
  9. Great link, particularly enjoyed the mention of Girls On Heroin, yeah.
  10. Thanks for the heads up on this one, free two day shipping with Amazon Prime to boot. My copy came today.
  11. Regarding the 1943 Carnegie concert on vinyl, would the issue to look for be the Book of the Month Club? When I saw the thread title I 1st thought of the 1948 ban as Ben Webster was briefly back and I don't think there are any commercial recordings to document his second, short stay with Ellington. Hey Ken, you are up early.
  12. I'm in. Thanks for the heads up.
  13. Venimos Tumbando by Edu Tancredi on Fresh Sound World Jazz with guest Miguel Zenon.

Another big thumb's up for At the Monterey Jazz Festival. I haven't heard any of his work post mid '60's although from what I read he continued to change (grow?) as an artist.
  15. Funny that Bob Newhart should come up here. I have recently started watching his second series (along with The Rockford Files) on Netflix and Hulu. More recently, I believe he did a story arc on Desperate Housewives.
  16. I would imagine that its only a matter of time Ronald.
  17. I got an iPhone about two weeks ago and have been slowly adding some apps. This morning I searched the app store and found an app called Disc Tracker that allows you to add your cd's to a database by scanning the barcode. I am going to try the free version. Anyone else have any experience with this app or any others meant to do the same thing?
  18. I used to subscribe to both the local paper of record, the Providence Journal, and the Boston Globe. Based on both needing more money (child education is going to kill me)and a noticeable decline in the quality of both papers, I have stopped subscribing to both. I read the NYT online pretty much every day. I could quibble about the specific setup but I do see it as a necessity that a healthy press be supported. The role of newspapers historically has been part of the system in our country that, at least a little bit, helps keep government and industry in line. I think it is a sad thing that neither of my children has the slightest urge to read, much less pay for, a newspaper. I wouldn't be quite so inclined to pay for the NYT if I hadn't seen the shocking, to me, decline in the Boston Globe. I can't speak to other papers around the country but I know the entire industry is one of the few that seems to be in as bad or worse shape than the music industry.
  19. Picked up Stan Tracey featuring Charlie Rouse, Playin In the Yard, $5.00.
  20. Thanks for the link, Larry. The videos are cool.
  21. What kind of library is aware enough to get this stuff and then get rid of it? Kind of sad.
  22. I find it interesting that he has recorded with Scott Hamilton, Harry Allen, and Greg Abate. All three have strong ties to Rhode Island. I think its a shame Barnes has no US distributor.
  23. Can anyone comment on any of the discs Alan Barnes has released on his Woodville label?
  24. I have "So In Love" on Artist House. Were the other two titles ever released by Artist House or did they come out after Artist House folded? I was under the impression that Analogue Productions issued the other two titles first.
