  1. Is it still there?
  2. Like montg I was underwhelmed by Portrait of Shorty and sold it but the price of a Proper might be too tempting to resist.
  3. Mine was the T Bone, which I no longer have. First jazz was Hank and you can bet I still have it.
  4. After seeing what has happened to people there, I realize that for all the complaining about this or that minor inconvenience that I am a tremendously lucky person. What we take for granted can be easily taken away in two seconds.
  5. I don't know if this has been mentioned (I'm not going back to read all pages) but how about some of Xanadu's Be Bop Revisited. Great series of albums.
  6. I wonder if Farrah Fawcett ever did a jazz cd
  7. Don't know how you could have less than zero?
  8. Mine's pretty small, compared to most people here. I just don't reach for Duke that often.
  9. For those who may have missed it, GOM posted a link to this article at least a year ago and it's a worthwhile read: http://www.danmillerjazz.com/webster.html
  10. I can't imagine that they'll be doing anything different than they're doing now. Perhaps by that time, we'll see Errol Garner and the Keynote on disc, plus other Verve material. The Complete Beehive would be fantastic. I have some cdrs of that material and it's stupendous.
  11. Strings says it all for me. Unless it's Bird or Clifford, not in this corner.
  12. What I see are a lot of board members not reading carefully.
  13. What an asshole. Even before I saw Chuck's post, my thought is why copy them. After that, fuck them, the idiots.
  14. List updated. Includes a Japanes rare mini lp 2 cd version of Getz at Large, ending tonight.
  15. Dream on! It is written that the Braves win every Division race til the year 2055. It is also written that the Braves then will lose in the first or second round every year. ← Dream on is right, you follower of now outlawed monikers . Losing 2 of 3 and scoring three runs the whole weekend ain't going to make it. The whole division is not that strong. Cards are going to win the league anyway.
  16. Like Jim said, the Mosaic is the legit one. In Europe, it's not illegal to make these. Unethical yes, illegal no. So you can't go after Proper.
  17. For me, it will be the: PJ Trios Tolliver Oliver Nelson Chu Berry (the one must for me) Sidney Bechet Mulligan As far as the older sets, I've already gotten what I wanted except for the Eldridge and the Basie.
  18. Counting everything, it's probably in the 50 to 60 range.
  19. Kalo said it for me. There's just something about some of these white guys singing like Woody that just don't it for me. Some of those male vocalists on the Kenton box are deadly. Jazz for me is instrumentalists not vocalists and while I can take it occasionally not just as a general rule. That's why 9 cds of Anita O'Day is 8 cds is too much for me. Vocalists I do like are Johnny Hartman (what a voice), Earl Coleman, Billie, Ella and Louis. Ella is what a singer should sound like. Since rock is/are vocals it's not an issue there for me.

  21. The ones that haven't made it to cd yet and then some. I probably haven't heard some of the rear early BNs like the Art Hodes, etc.
  22. I had no problem with the designs of these boxes but getting bad cds is a definite bummer. Now, if you want to complain about a cd design, try the Evans Verve. I know we've discussed that one before but it bears re mentioning.
  23. WKCR in New York is now running its annual Charlie Parker birthday broadcast scheduled to run through Monday night.
  24. This is about 20 or so minutes too early but Monday is Bird's birthday. There isn't much more to say about one of the three most influential musicians of our music ever to play but suffice it to say that I (and probably many others) wouldn't be fans of this music (or would there even be a music? -- probably yes, but not the way we know it today) but not for this man and his attempts to just play those "pretty notes." Thanks for all those Savoys, Dials, Verves and everything else. What would music be like if you were still playing today? Bird does live!!
  25. Mets on a roll . Let's see what develops. Not going crazy yet. This is just a build up until next year but they're only 4 behind the tomahawk choppin' fools.
