    Summer RVGs

This is a very fine list with some great stuff on there with one notable exception, Night of the Cookers, a simply awful set. I had the Spanish BN set and sold it. I will definitely upgrade Inner Urge. There's a few I don't have that I will be getting like Breaking Point and Blue Spirits.
  3. Richie Kamuca, according to AMG, has 11 leader dates from various labels. This would make an excellent Mosaic project, akin to the Serge Chaloff Mosaic. One can never have too much Kamuca, an often ignored player, in my view.
  4. Further to Rooster's post about last chance, here's the related topic.
  5. I really like the Kelly set, plus how can you go wrong with Frank Strozier. The Shorter set is good but I really do prefer the Kelly Chambers set.
  6. According to AMG, his first and third albums that are the subject of the two fer (the second being a live date, excellent by the way) are The Soulful Piano of Junior Mance and Big Chief.
  7. I intend to get in the next couple of days some of the new Fantasy reissues: Red Alone Lee Konitz Peacemeal James Moody Phil Upchurch Feeling Blue Then in two weeks, Fantasy is putting out a bunch of twofers that I won't be able to pass up, including Junior Mance Shirley Scott Harold Mabern Johnny Hammond Smith
  8. According to the stats, 17% of my posts are in the Mosaic forum, although I'd guess Reissues is probably a close second. I guess I'm pretty spread out.
  9. Hasn anybody checked out thenew Fantasy reissues? The Moody and Red Garland ones look particularly interesting.
  10. Irwin, we hardly knew ye . Maybe I'll go back to being Brad. Wait a second, I already am Brad . Oh, never mind
  11. I've tried the A-Z approach a few times but with a variation. I'll pick one cd from each letter of the alphabet. 26 cds shouldn't be difficult but I always get sidetracked.
  12. Sal, You won't regret it. I was on the fence like you and in fact I even said I wasn't going to get it. I'm glad I changed my mind. Even if you can only get a partial set, that will still be some great music.
  13. I don't think anybody gets a kick out of him. Short of giving him a holiday from the Board or ignoring his posts, there isn't much to be done.
  14. It was only yesterday he was just a lad! Hope you're into jazz. Happy from all of us
  15. That about sums it up: in his own words.
  16. Aric, Aric, Aric, from board to board some things just never change.

    proper reissues

David and Barak, you may want to check out the Blule Harlem Ike Quebec Proper thread for additional discussion and background on this issue.
  18. You guys better not tell Clem. He'll kill you.
  19. There's always Hiroshi. He'll sell even one, if that's all you want to get.
  20. In the US that is also true. My recollection is that starting with the Sonny Stitt group, they were all digipacks. I think they found them to be expensive in mini lp format and digipack apparently is cheaper although not as nice.
  21. Gary, I didn't think so. Just thought I'd bring some levity
  22. Brad, I purchased the German set from another eBay seller a few months ago. I am VERY pleased with the sound. although I do agree with the complaint about the booklet. However, for this price, and unless you have the ears of an Alsatian (and I don't mean from Alsace-Lorraine) then this is a bargain in comparison to the U.S. set. I have seen the U.S. set go for anywhere between $150-190 on eBay. Now.. can someone point me in the direction of Couw's invaluable improvement on the German booklet, please? Garth, Here's the link to couw's work.
  23. Yes, but affordable. And the music's magnificent! Yes, but coupled with all that and Claude's view that the sound is ok, there would seem to be a reason why the US edition is somewhat more ($225). However, I also agree with his view that it's probably overpriced. Based on what I hear here, I'll pass on the ZYX set. BTW, when this discussion started, this seller had for set. Now, there are 2. We've got market power Well unfortunately for me the saying 'Beggars cant be choosers' rings true. Hey, I'm no beggar, impoverished, maybe, beggar no. Course I never refuse a handout
  24. Nice. Very nice. When this came out, I was not sure I really needed that one. Now that I have got it, I rate it as one of the best of the recent jazz boxes. Essential for Dexter fans. Lots of additional tracks, most of them superb. The rest merely very good! Ditto. A nice box. With really nice liner notes.
  25. This wasn't my experience with this set. I really found it very good, at least on my system. No complaints here from the sound.
