  1. +1 on Nick DiGeronimo, a highlight of those albums he appears on.
  2. I used to buy lots of new books. But I've downsized, and hardcovers pile up on shelves and are difficult to get rid of. Nowadays my purchases are mainly used books or Kindle, unless there's something relatively exotic I find compelling. I can borrow highly publicized books or works by famous authors pretty easily through interlibrary loan. But it depends on one's field of interest. A poetry buff will likely buy many books that sell 100 copies or less, published by obscure or private presses. Ditto amateur historians who specialize in their local regions.
  3. Hadn't listened to Ra in a while, so 4 discs from Art Yard in a Box: Sleeping Beauty (this is one of my favorite Ra albums), Disco 3000, The Antique Blacks, On Jupiter
  4. Whoa, my bad. Apologies. OK, agreed the $150 price @Jimmy's is f**g outrageous. 🖕 BTW, I also checked Yoshi's in Oakland (other big name that came to mind) and prices were nowhere near that level.
  5. Seems outrageous to me. But I looked around and found ticket prices for the Cookers @ Scullers in Boston, late set (9 PM) May 10 topping out @ $140. So maybe $150 isn't a wild outlier in some sense, but I agree that the price is not commensurate with the location. 😆
  6. https://bangonacan.org/long-play-2024/ Loads of attractive events, not just "contemporary classical" but well-known jazz/improv names (both as performers and composers). Worth reading the program at above link...too many high points for me to enumerate. 😉
  7. ...And I was honored to present a Special Jury Prize to the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY — not only as a posthumous nod to Karl Berger, but also as an acknowledgment of the vital work that the CMS, now directed by Billy Martin, still carries forward... I attended a CMS (Creative Music Studio) monthly event yesterday in Kingston, NY. They acknowledged their award and were extremely grateful. Thanks for posting the link. I'd read the article before the event, otherwise I might not have known what was being referred to.

🙄OMG. I could not finish But Beautiful and am not sure I want to click on the link.
  9. cdjapan order due to coupon offer and noticing the first item in stock:
  10. I didn't know it won any Oscars! Being almost totally out of touch with popular culture. 🙄 Noticed it upcoming at semi-local art house theater and thought it worth a shot. On further reflection, indeed an amazing film. In real time I found it kind of disorienting and other-worldly, but the more I reflect, the more highly I regard it.
  11. Confront Recordings (UK) seem to do only B/W covers: https://confrontrecordings.bandcamp.com/music I have this one but this is a more artistic example: This Tribe (not Confront) classic (design and music) has probably appeared upthread, but I'm too lazy to check:
  12. I think I saw a related news story, a year or two ago(?) but forget the name of the town. Got a lot of media attention. 😁
  13. I will try and remember. [Waldron-Lacy] But it won't arrive until next week. By then other posters will likely have shared impressions.
  14. Drawn in by clickbait thread title. This is all "news" to me. But I'm proud to say that I had never heard of Chris Pratt before seeing this thread. 🤣
  15. This is pretty good, though the subject matter will thin out the potential audience. Per Wiki: The Zone of Interest is a 2023 historical drama film written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, co-produced among the United Kingdom, the United States, and Poland. Loosely based on the 2014 novel by Martin Amis, the film focuses on the life of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig, who live with their family in a home in the "Zone of Interest" next to the concentration camp. Christian Friedel stars as Rudolf Höss alongside Sandra Hüller as Hedwig Höss.
  16. Just bought the new Waldron/Lacy (with others) Mighty Warrior Live in Antwerp, and threw in the Contemporary Jazz Quintet's Location album (which looks interesting).
  17. People keep track of them. 😉 In USA, scarce as hen's teeth. Surprisingly many in Europe. 2024 listings (all Wagner, incl Ring) : Europe US/Canada
  18. Excellent, enjoy! I've seen 2 staged Rings, one in Bayreuth (Barenboim cond, Kupfer design) and the other in NYC (Levine cond, I dunno who designed). Used to have a VHS of the Boulez-Chéreau Ring, watched it quite a few times, but eventually ditched the player and donated the video.
  19. Expected at DG "about May 15".
  20. RIP. That Live Fillmore East (2 LP) album was one of the very first I purchased.
  21. Google shows some appearances through mid-2023. I have a CD ("Recursive Tree" John Blum / David Murray / Chad Taylor on Relative Pitch) recorded 12/21/22.
  22. Yeah, I'm being a little unfair. I will check reviews and feedback when Freeman's book is published. I'm more likely to purchase Young...Freeman probably the library route (if available) or perhaps Kindle.
  23. There's another Creative Music Studio Improvisors Orchestra event in Kingston next Sunday 4/28 https://creativemusic.org/events/ Not quite as gaudy a lineup as the last one (3/31), but I enjoyed that one so much that I'm going on the 28th.
  24. Intending to be there. And just announced today: Joe McPhee also at the Lace Mill (Kingston) 5/19. Music and spoken word w. McPhee, Fred Lonborg-Holm and Michael Bisio.
