  1. It appears several of us are on a Rollins kick. I've been listening to this one as I read the earlier part of the biography:
  2. How's the sound on this one?
  3. It sure is. Now I have to go hunt down those Jazz Anecdote books!
  4. Listening to disc 5. Some great DeFranco on this disc!
  5. Me too, but Rabshakeh's response was very funny!
  6. Just finished a very good British series called "Bodyguard" on Netflix.
  7. Thanks for the heads up on this one, Larry. I'd collected the first five volumes years ago and listened now and then. I confess I didn't know they'd continued to more volumes. I wonder whether the fact that Yale controls this material is a factor in the Goodman Estate's being so unwilling to let other stuff be reissued? I'm thinking here of the sizable trove of Savory material that they wouldn't let Mosaic issue?
  8. The things I learn from this Board!
  9. 👍 Like those Fuller Savoys!
  10. Mine finally arrived today. Looks fine (except that, bizarrely, the cover insert on the first set of cds was upside down!). With the exception of the three Opera House cds and part of the Hollywood Bowl concert, all previously issued, this will be new music for me, so I'm looking forward to exploring it. Memory fails (it often does), but didn't we hear somewhere that Mosaic was going to issue all those 1957 Newport records in a set? Or was that just one of those ideas on the "they ought to do this" thread?
  11. That's a lovely memory! I was there once in April. I'd just had a lovely dinner and gotten a fresh street nutella crepe (it's a weakness, what can I say?). I walked on to the beautiful Pont des Arts in a gentle rain and stood at the rail. There was no one else there, and it was as if I had the city all to myself. The tower was sparkling in the distance, the Louvre to one side, the Institut on the other. If I didn't already love Paris, then at that moment, I would have fallen in love with it all over again.
  12. Though I don't think she much liked the song, I always liked Ella's version of "A House is not a Home"
  13. Thanks Lon. I had gotten caught up in the whole credit card hold issue and had reordered right away, but I took your advice and wrote them. I got a short note from Fred that it would be shipped "in a couple of days." Then I got a shipping notice the next day. Soooo, I should see the set before long. This rollout definitely has been a bit messier than usual.
  14. Finally got a copy of Saxophone Colossus and plan to dive in today. It's certainly a big one!
  15. Doesn't matter to me when or for what Wayne gets a Grammy, just that he deserves it!
  16. Nope, no sign of mine either, and the credit card was charged some time back.
  17. I have that Avid comp. I like the comparison to Hackett, because Green had such lovely tone.
  18. Just saw "The Whale." Brendan Fraser is amazing in it. Going to see "Corsage" tomorrow.
  19. Some of you are way ahead of me. I have 222 cds plus 47 lps. Maybe four or five Columbia and Victor 78s. So, 269 total, but like Lon says, there are so many more. A complete Mercer set would be nice. Those sides are scattered across several (now pretty expensive) Classics cds.
  20. I noticed that too. Will wonders never cease? Pre-ordered.
