I went for these, they arrived in 24 hours. Clearly only managed to listen to a few CD LR 591 Alexey Kruglov; Russian Metaphor;- very good Russian- very much a jazz record , like this one quite a bit CD LR 283/284 Parker / Guy / Lytton & Marylin Crispell; After Appleby CD LR 410/411 Frank Gratkowski Project; Loft Exile V; brief listen but sounds good, interesting line up CD LR 476 Frank Gratkowski Vis-a-Vis Misha Mengelberg; - not sure about this one, had high expectations but it lacks energy etc, CD LR 435 Wadada Leo Smith / Walter Quintus / Katya Quitus / Miroslav Tadic / Mark Nauseef; Snakish; CD LR 566 Alexey Kruglov; Seal of Time; CD LR 363 Dominic Duval / Joe Mcphee / John Heward; Undersound II; - thumbs up, sound a little dusty but invigorating and accessible free jazz CD LR 243 Parker / Guy / Lytton & Marylin Crispell; Natives & Aliens like this one, thoughtful free improv.

I love that one. I already had that LP, and some other material of his, but it was when I saw him at the Brecon Jazz Fest in 2000 that what a nice guy he is came across to me. What's an 'authentic' blues player that Mance isn't? MG I've got this , thought it was ok , a bit light and superficial for my tastes - or at least what I was expecting.

Bunky Green- this one is very good indeed Larry Coryell -this one's ok

Happy Birthday, enjoy your day and some fine music....

Listening to Albert Mangelsdorff Quintet (Live at Audimax Freiburg) very good period sound and great playing. Recommended. This is the only one I've gone for in the series.

Ornette Coleman - Song X ( Geffen)-

Mulgrew Miller - The Countdown - Landmark- I should have known better than to get an LP which proudly states Digital on the cover. However in this case I'm glad I did part with £2 for this excellent session with Joe Henderson, Tony Williams and Ron Carter. Very nice latter day Joe, Miller is excellent and Tony's not too loud.

Bley Bley Bley !!! Ballads Blood Touching after all this melancholy I'll need to walk the dog....

Upwards of £50 in good nick for the UK versions and probably more for the Dutch Fontanas. I've got several of them - I think I picked the Dollar Brand one up for about £7 ! Isn't the Marion Brown cover art taken from a Brownie photo? (I'm sure I remember him mentioning it). any preference for monos vs stereos in this series ( where they exist in both) ?
-
Is this a reissue of the Crown album? Is this different from this LP on Metrojazz ( which incidentally sounds great)

John Tchicai -Archie Shepp-Rufus Fontana (mono)

Earl Hines Mosaic box scheduled for release in December 2012
Clunky replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Brunswick and Decca sides included ? . I'm guessing yes and no respectively. -
a few new 78s today, some mint Art Tatum UK Brunswicks- pre-war reissues I think- I find it hard to date these and so don't bother. Two nice sunburst label Us Deccas drew my attention. Lil Armstrong & her swing orchestra- Doin' the Suzie Q/My Hi De Ho Man- (Decca) 1059 Lil Armstrong & her swing orchestra - Just a thrill/ It's Murder ( Decca) 1182 These are the first Lil in my collection in any format so I wasn't sure what to expect but thought they might be interesting. Played the first side and thought ,hmm ... that's a nice band and the tenor player is excellent. I don't have a discography (Chuck, don't shoot) but established that is was none other that Chu Berry , he gets plenty of space and sounds great. It's a wonder that this didn't make it onto his Mosaic box. Nice sides all round.

I want box number 57

Mattias Ståhl-Två För Tommy- (Found You Recordings), really a trio led date with Patric Thorman (bass), Fredrik Ljungkvist (clarinet) and MS on vibes, clearly referencing JImmy Giuffre's work
-
Lean Left with Steve Noble -Live at Cafe Oto (Kollaps)- more punk jazz, play loud or not at all....still can't decide re KVM ???
-
Barry Guy and Mats Gustafsson " Sinners, rather than saints" (No Business)- fine recording Guy sounds very impressive especially on his solos spots.
-
These are really great sides , I have this LP and the sound it pretty good.

Lean Left with Ab Baars -Live at Cafe Oto (Kollaps)

I hate adding CC details to new websites but Kickstarter use the Amazon checkout which is very cool IMO. Better late than never.

Ted Curson- Urge ( Fontana) Jazz Life cover - as above

True Events- (482 Music) - ace duet with Fujiwara Apparent Distance- (Firehouse 12)- just got this one and still taking it in, seems to go all over the place with each track sounding very different Book Of Three - (Rogue Art)- possibly my favourite THB disc but it's a tough choice Any love out there for Taylor Ho Bynum. I think I first came across THB on his hatOLOGY set in 2008 , then with Alexander Hawkins and I've been exploring his music since. He seems to have great ideas , superb chops and keeps great company. These three have been in heavy rotation recently and are all very different. I need to go back to Asphalt Flowers Forking Paths and re-listen to it but his name has become a sure sign for me that I'll enjoy a session. Anyone else ?
