  1. I agree, I really didn't think much about it at the time, you know, he just had a bad day and an injured thumb. It's all this BS after the fact- yes, much of it speculation by the media and fans, but then TO steps up to the mic............ STFU TO!!!
  2. Wow, I find it hard to swallow (pun intended) that Simpson's presence at the game was a primary reason for Romo's poor performance. If that was the case then he's not the player I thought he was. And I was wondering when we would start hearing from TO again. I really thought Dallas was the real deal and had predicted a NE/Dallas Superbowl, but I'm not so sure now. What a difference a couple weeks make! Looks like the meltdown has commenced. It will be interesting to see how many teams experience this phenomenon.
  3. I think I had one of these. Must have seemed like a good idea at the time.
  4. Ah yes, it takes me back to high school (I graduated in '76). That stuff looked godawful back then and looks hilarious now. Quite possibly the worst "fashion decade" of all time. Although the 80s had its moments, too........can you say "Members Only"???
  5. I would guess the purpose of the "arrangements" was to basically provide a "roadmap" so all the musicians would know how the tunes were to begin and end (minimizing discussion between tunes), and also to provide a common set of chord changes (sometimes players know different changes for common tunes). More of an organizational "producer" thing on Sickler's part than a re-interpretation of the material.
  6. Absolutely! And the Rahsaan stuff too! I would have loved to have met him, so I could thank him. Rest In Peace.
  7. Doesn't mean they didn't try... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf2kbBinvI4 Wow, that is............sublime. On so many levels.....the dancers, the clarinet dude, the Tiajuana Brass treatment. Amazing.
  8. "OK boys, "Stablemates"..........a-one, a-two....."
  9. I'm just amazed that there was a time when someone thought it would be cool to imitate a trombone.
  10. Thanks for the report and the beautiful pictures, Mark. I wish I could have been there! Slide is one of my favorites- it's amazing how agile he is on that big horn he plays.
  11. Cooked a big ham for dinner with green beans and a baked potato. I'll be eatin' off that bad boy for awhile. I found a great glaze recipe- maple syrup, brown sugar, whole grain dijon mustard, cinnamon and nutmeg. I think it's worth the trouble to grind cinnamon sticks and whole nutmeg instead of using the powdered stuff, especially the nutmeg. Much different and more intense flavor.
  12. I was a fan of that film too. Until now, I thought I was the only one in America who was. I'm definitely a fan of this film- I've seen it several times and really enjoy all the performances. Just got the DVD. BTW, now reading Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential". Great read so far.
  13. I was just listening to a CD I haven't listened to in a long time, the 1988 Contemporary release "Frank Morgan All Stars/ Reflections". Frank w/Joe Henderson, Mulgrew Miller, Bobby Hutcherson, Ron Carter and Al Foster. Very nice session.
  14. He "plays" the line "Lord, what fools these mortals be!" How can you not love that?
  15. When you spend thousands of dollars on the music (yes because you're interested in it, to say the least) and you live on a teacher's salary you tend to think about money now and then. I'm sure in the fantastic ivory towers where you live they hand out music for free but where I live you have to pay high prices for music that isn't readily available. But by all means Chairman Mao continue to enlighten us on our great ignorance in terms of commerce and music. DS, you seem like a good guy and I hope you stick around. Chuck can can be a crusty MF sometimes, but know that he loves the music and has devoted much of his life to making available music that might not have otherwise seen the light of day. Everything he says is coming from the heart, so don't take offense. Just my two cents. BTW, have you met clementine yet?
  16. Holy shit, Orton really sucks! An ugly game on both sides.
  17. So how's this one? I saw her on SNL doing a tune from this (I think it was "Earth Intruders") with an all-female brass group, and it seemed kind of interesting (nice groove).
  18. Good porn title. Exactly what I was going to say, but my PC antenna suppressed the post... I had my PC antenna surgically removed, it was an outpatient procedure performed by Dr. Allen Lowe.
  19. What a day! Dallas and Pittsburgh lose at home, Miami finally wins one. NE and Indy won but both are looking beatable. And watch out for the Bucs and Jags! I'm not sure things are as cut-and-dried as they seemed a couple weeks ago...... Nice to see Cleveland doing better. It's about time!
  20. Also Lee Konitz.
  21. I know you're having some nasty weather up there, were you able to cook 'em on the grill? I made up a big pot o' chili tonight which I will "eat off of" for the upcoming week. :rsmile:
  22. Miles is the first one that comes to mind for me. He was one of the first players I heard who impressed me with what he didn't play.
  23. It was on sale, what can I say? H B J S !
