Sun Ra's "Love in Outer Space" -- lyrics?? -- Can't
sidewinder replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Discography
There's also a version on 'The Singles' 2CD set on Evidence which was a David Henderson vocal overdub onto a track off of the Saturn LP 'The Night Of The Purple Moon'. -
Happy Birthday Mr Geller ! The one time I've seen him was actually in the States - one what must have been a rare West Coast visit for him. He was predictably excellent !

Aint that the truth ! I never use it either - not if I can avoid it. The Swedish fast train service to and from the airport was very punctual and comfortable but at about £35 equivalent for a return 20 minute journey was damned expensive, even by our inflated price standards. Didn't get to eat the moose but I'll leave that to the next visit. Until then I'm stuck with Swedish meatballs from Ikea !

I ordered a used copy of this the day after your post... enjoying it right now! Nice one !

Back to Stockholm - I did get an early morning stroll in to the Old Town over the bridge (not far from the hotel). Very interesting, full of character and an area which looks to be early medieval in origin with those very narrow meandering lanes down to the river leading off a 'main' road (it reminded me of York - itself a significant Danish settlement at one time). There was even a vinyl store which I went back to check out but they only had progressive rock e.g. Uriah Heep albums. The was an album (reissue) by Chris McGregor though. :rsmile: The 'Glenn Miller Cafe' was a great little place that was packed to capacity with lots of neat B&W photos of jazz artists on the wall. The food was excellent and the beer went down well (both Swedish beer and Belgian trappist monk varieties sampled). Somehow though, the band missed the gig but it didn't matter in terms of a fine evening ! Heading out though the weather really turned for the worse and they de-iced the aircraft wings - based on my Canadian experience that's when you really know that Winter is on its way. I'd definitely like to go back though and check out the city thoroughly as a tourist.

Strong Strata-East vibe but with a hint of Bartz's work with Miles and infusions of soul (Andy Bey is on vocals for some of these sessions, Bartz also does vocals). I actually caught him live doing the 'I've Known Rivers' and 'Uhuru' vocals just a few years ago and very good it was too. Shared the bill with Eddie Henderson.

There's a very good compilation of tracks from these Gary Bartz Milestone albums on Soul Brother Records' 'Gary Bartz Anthology' CD/2LP set - I think Dusty has had it in stock of late. A strong period for Bartz.

I think I hit the bins in that basement just the once. Shortly afterwards, it had closed down.

What the hell happened to this thread whilst I was away? And big to Daniel for the kind hospitality in Sweden. Great place !

LF: Mike Taylor Trio CD on Impressed-Repressed

I'll second the recommendation for Alan's site. -
Thanks Folks - I had a tortuous journey via Paris (original transit point Amsterdam was fog-bound) and it turned out there was fog in Paris too so landing at CDG Airport in an ATR-42 in bad fog was a bit nerve-racking to say the least. Time is against me I think so I'll probably kick the vinyl shops on the head. This is a real nice place though - will have to come back and see it properly next time. Great flight last night over the coastal areas of Denmark and Sweden. By the way - it's warmer here than it is in England ! Great that Daniel has touched base - looks like a beer or two and some music tonight.

I've got it chewy - but I have a flight to Stockholm to catch. More info at the weekend when I dig the LP out. -
Thanks for the suggestions, Chris. Unfortunately the daytimes will be occupied with work and the only sight-seeing I can do will be at night. I guess I will have to make a return trip to see these sights !

Stanford 20/20 Cricket Tournament
sidewinder replied to Royal Oak's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
20/20 cricket has really taken off here in the UK. The great thing is that you can start a game around 4pm and complete it in an evening, with floodlights for the last hour or two. People like seeing big hits and lots of runs in a short time, so it is popular and has been generating the ££. The danger is that the standard of First Class and International Test Cricket, a much more 'refined' game, might suffer as a result. -
Looks like I'll be in Stockholm for the rest of this week . Anyone have any gig or (affordable) jazz vinyl outlet recommendations?

The Mike Taylor CD is proving as elusive as the LP.. -
I've got that one on 10" (the one with the dancer on the front sleeve). It's a VG/VG+ copy.
