    Mingus News

Me too. I'll see if I can get it in the UK for a reasonable price. Otherwise, it will be the second item on my Xmas list. I believe that one track was put on the 13 Pictures Mingus anthology. I believe that the anthology had "Meditations on Integration" from the Monterey date, not this one.
  2. You could have kept that information to yourself! (And these sonic issues are so subjective!) I may or may not seek a copy of the new one. . . .
  3. Tony it's far from my favorite Weston, I view it more the way that Jim does. It's well worth having, it's nothing like the (tongue in cheek I hope!) CTI by Gentle Joseph Teefski!
  4. Mine too Flurin.
  5. Earlier thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=23132&st=0
  6. Bet he read this one! It was one of the first science fiction books I read, and this is one mind-boggingly contemporaneous one if you ask me!
  7. Couldn't agree more! I definitely love Rouse with Monk . . . (and don't forget he's on Riversides too!). The Blue Notes get the edge for me though because of the first appearances of all those tunes and just the sheer inventiveness of Monk in comparison to almost anything else contemporaneous. I never tire of those sides! I still haven't bought the US Live in Tokyo; I have a Japanese two cd version that came out befor the US version (and in a slimline double!)
  8. I didn't know those had fallen out of print! I'd say get them, they're fantastic (the different drummers make them both differently great); hopefully you have the Blue Notes (my personal top picks) and of the studio Columbias, I really recommend the new Underground and It's Monk Time. . . .
  9. I don't know who to thank, Woody, Buzz, whoever, I"m just very happy with the iMac, iBook, MacBook and iPod in my household. . . . I only wish I didn't have to use a PC at work! Decidedly inferior as far as "feel" and dependability.
  10. Each comes with the appropriate quarter of the book. A real bargain I tell ya!
  11. Okay. Weird. My mind is playin' with me. I have the JRVG and sold my earlier edition. Thanks!
  12. Even the ones that don't suck, someone thinks they do!
  13. Listening to the "Sunshine Daydream" date, August 27, 1972. Of course it's nice to see it, but nice to hear it too!
  14. To each their own!
  15. Can't wait to hear it! My copy is at home. . . and I'm not! A friend is going to forward to me my latest mail batch soon though! Retro-nette. . . yes, I bet it is. I saw this group in Austin and I would agree that there definitely is a retrospective feel to the music and performance. It was one of the best nights of music I've heard.
  16. I'll send it with the next batch of Pigpen compilation series artwork from your art director. . . .
  17. It was never a Connoisseur, I'm pretty sure. It was one of the early cds, and then part of the Collectors Classics re-pressings, right?
  18. Yes, that's why I was very happy to see this available on eMusic for download, was posted last Tuesday or so!
  19. Hey, you've got so many silver discs now. . . I'll send you a Walkman!
  20. Hey, without middle fingers, we'd have to SAY the obscene words!
  21. I'll think about it if the cape and cane come with it.
  22. Many many more happy ones!
  23. Equally deserving of reissue those big band sides. I've managed to get the officially released ones via Chronogical Classics and the Columbia cd releases. . . but would love a Mosaic set. Don't rule it out. . .eventually they'll probably sic Scott Wenzel on that.
