  1. Well, that box set was not MEANT to be chockful of rareties. There is the Isle of Wight audio disc, great to have, and also the original mix of Bitches Brew, also great to have.
  2. "A Pocketful of Dreams" is a great book.
  3. Yes, Flurin, looks to be the same as what's in the Classic Album Collection.
  4. Like Flurin, I've grown to like Peterson a lot as well. In my case it definitely was a taste I had to acquire. I credit Bill Fenohr for helping me get there.
  5. #908 has arrived. That's the highest number I've ever gotten in a pre-order.
  6. Great news! I'm excited too.
  7. I think there's a good chance it's the recording of the piano, and not the piano itself.

Sorry, I misread that. If the recent releases are from the master tapes, then that's a good thing for jazzkind.
  9. Regarding the Miles recordings and similar radio broadcast items: it's not a bootleg if Columbia or the radio rights holder releases it, but it is if someone just puts it out on cd with no affiliation to any of the right-holders, right? As for the youtube links, I agree with you, I really have an aversion to youtube (which isn't rational, but has more to do wtih how many links I get sent or see and just don't want to have my time taken up that way). To me it's the same as an MP3 on a blog, or should be on this forum if we're applying rules fairly.
  10. MANY many more HAPPY happy ones!
  11. I first read this in the early seventies. . . I have the version you've pictured Alan, and also my first copy, with this cover:

Felse, to me the difference was significant, not marginal, and I paid that price long ago. I'd do it again as well. I'd like to have extra copies of these to give to someone else who's a fan. Maybe one day in the future.
  13. Glad you're enjoying that! That is one of my favorite of his novels.
  14. Many many happy happy returns!
  15. Late sixties, early seventies. . .yeah great stuff going on. Hendrix made the move to reunite with Billy and play with Buddy and fuse more non-rock elements and became a real catalyst for both jazz fusion and funk. The idea of an album as an art piece on its own came to fruition to both great and not so great effect. Big big money was being made, and this both inspired some artists to great work and enabled some artists to be given enough reins to steer great work. Those were the days.
  16. There are definitely hundreds of hours of live material that could be used in a series such as this may be. But. . . I'm not sure there's much that the family has, nor much that Columbia/Sony has the rights to, professionally recorded etc. They could put the four nights at the Fillmore that became Miles Davis at Fillmore out, uncut. That would be great.
  17. I expect we'll see the same DVD offered. It featured 1967 appearances in Stockholm and Karlsruhe. EXCELLENT DVD.

I'll just disagree a bit with David. . . I think the Mosaics sound best of any of the other issues I've heard.
  19. The official bootleg series--the time may have finally come.
  20. I'm watching episodes of Chuck, Season One (Blu-Ray) in between episodes of Damages, Season Three (DVD).
  21. JOOOOOHHHHHHN COLTRAAAAAAAAAANE! Now maybe there will be a reply to that shout, "What's up Joe Lee."
  22. ARGH! RIP Joe Lee.
  23. My favorite Herbie on Blue Note sideman appearance and general playhing is "Feelin' the Spirit." He plays gloriously on this great session.
  24. I like the Beverly Cavern stuff. Oh wait a minute, wrong thread!
