Fakebook is mostly acoustic covers ... but good! New Wave Hot Dogs and President are 2 of my favs, but very different from Painful. The Prisoners of Love collection is excellent, too.

There are sort of two Yo La Tengos - the first 4-5 albums, and all the ones after. The earlier albums are definitely more garage-y.
  3. Oops! Missed that one!

They're teaming up with Robyn Hitchcock to perform his first album "Black Snake Diamond Role" at the Fillmore in September. I would DEFINITELY go but unfortunately I'm going to be out of town.
  5. Now streaming on NPR. John Scofield Performs 'Quiet And Loud Jazz'
  6. I still use my Nano. It works great, holds LOTS of tunes and takes up practically NO space. Also, it saves me from draining my phone battery.
  7. Ordered the t-shirt and CD bundle. THANKS!
  8. It's a little hard to find, for sure. I just had a packaging issue and couldn't match the pre-sets to get the answer I wanted. I finally got to a place where I could send an email and they responded in less than 12 hours. It was definitely a human response, because the item was no longer in stock and they gave me some options for a refund or replace with a 3rd party seller. They were surprisingly helpful.
  9. Mine arrived yesterday. Looking forward to this one.
  10. Douglas Edwards: a "vintage" CBS news reporter.
  11. I've had the Hartman album since it came out and it's one of his strongest dates, IMO.
  12. There's an interesting festival that's been happening in Knoxville, TN called the Big Ears Festival. It's not a "Jazz Festival" per se, but blends several different genres. This year they had such diverse acts as Wilco, Carla Bley and Henry Threadgill. I'm already planning for next year's dates in March.
  13. Looks like Cuscuna is unloading some stock on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/usr/bluenotesound
  14. Besides being music that will probably be hard to find, the clips sounded really good to me!
  15. Will there be a "bundle" offer for the CDs and T-shirt?
  16. I already have a ticket for the SFJAZZ show. It's a very small venue, too ... should be great!
  17. I didn't see much of anything worth buying.
  18. Me FOUR! The notice said: "Please note that we are behind in shipping and we expect to ship your order in about 7 days."
  19. I saw them a couple of years ago for the first time. Really enjoyed it. Even though they played a couple of the "hits", it didn't seem like an oldies act to me.
  20. Agreed about "The Free Slave" with the all-star cast of Woody Shaw, George Coleman, Hugh Lawson and Cecil McBee! Not to mention a smokin' version of Cecil's "Will Pan's Walk".
  21. I was seeing if I could find any current info on Cuscuna and stumbled on this interesting 5 1/2 minute monologue by him about his approach to reissues. Check it out.
  22. I think the discussion here was that "old people" are the only ones going to see jazz. I'm not saying that younger fans are going to see the older musicians. I don't see them at those shows, either. But I think there IS a new generation of jazz or jazz-influenced artists out there who are appealing to younger audiences.
  23. Good to see this thread again. If anyone's interested, both Compost albums are available for streaming on Amazon Music.
  24. I think there's a new interest in jazz as personified by Kamasi Washington and groups like Snarky Puppy and their offshoots. I've been to shows by both that were packed ... with a large percentage of enthusiastic "young people."
