  1. That's crazy cheap! I just picked up The Seagulls Of Kristiansund, The Git Go-live At The Village Vanguard, and Crowd Scene. On the other hand, I feel like I'm "stealing" ...
  2. That period was such an amazing 'changing of cultures'. A friend just posted a clip from Hollywood Palace hosted by Jimmy Durante, who is introducing the Grass Roots. Not that the GR were such an outrageous band, but juxtaposed with an aging Durante it exaggerates the culture shock of the time. The pop culture of the 50s was quickly getting pushed to the sidelines. Here's that clip, BTW:
  3. You could contact his son and see if he can verify. Clifford Brown, Jr.
  4. Really? You guys don't know Paul Butterfield? I guess I'm just old ...
  5. Those 3 guys got to split $500 - some nice change in those days, I'm sure.
  6. ... and the 2 extended tunes are great. Cowell's "Effi" and Merritt's "Nommo" which is a highlight of Lee Morgan's "Lighthouse" tour de force.
  7. "... please do not come along and shout out for PT songs!"
  8. I'm no expert on classical music, but this is a nice album.
  9. Is that Curtis Amy? He's the one who recorded the original solo.
  10. Herbie, McCoy, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell ... to name a few more.
  11. Someone used to have a sticker that said: "Records are your best entertainment value" Ain't THAT the truth!
  12. If I remember correctly, Sounds (E. Village, NYC) stickers weren't the easiest to remove, either.
  13. Yes, Wynant. Even more odd in that the movies continued using the "Thin Man" name.
  14. What's cool about Maltese Falcon is that so much of the film (including much of the dialogue) is lifted directly from the novel.
  15. If you're looking for suggestions, I don't think you can go wrong with ANY of the Chandler or Hammett novels. Read 'em all!
  16. He was in a serious car accident some months ago, but fortunately seems to be recovering well.
  17. Well, he IS married to Laurie Anderson! ... and Zorn as a long-time "downtown" musician would certainly be a very familiar face.
  18. Yep, "Death Magnetic" was good!
  19. What's THIS all about? [just a curious Excel user]
  20. From Monday's SF Chronicle gossip column: And at Tuesday's U2 concert, Bono described a Bay Area dinner the night before as a G-3 summit of U2, Metallica and Green Day, talking about staging a music festival. The venue, The Chronicle's Paolo Lucchesi blogged Thursday, was A16, and there were more than three summiteers. The gathering included Lou Reed, U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr., the Edge, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Metallica's Lars Ulrich. After dinner, the movable feast continued at Rye. Rumor has it that Reed was in Marin last week, recording with Metallica.

All those Magic Triangle albums are great - if you can find them. Also: ... and "Seven Minds", if you can find THAT.
  22. No way! This guy's ageless!
  23. I've been OK with the Amazon cloud drive. It's good for me to have music easily available at work. Less of a hassle than copying files back and forth with a USB drive. I also haven't uploaded so many albums that the 20GB limit is a problem. BTW, when you buy an MP3 album from Amazon, you have an option to move straight to the cloud or download.
