  1. Is that Curtis Amy? He's the one who recorded the original solo.
  2. Herbie, McCoy, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell ... to name a few more.
  3. Someone used to have a sticker that said: "Records are your best entertainment value" Ain't THAT the truth!
  4. If I remember correctly, Sounds (E. Village, NYC) stickers weren't the easiest to remove, either.
  5. Yes, Wynant. Even more odd in that the movies continued using the "Thin Man" name.
  6. What's cool about Maltese Falcon is that so much of the film (including much of the dialogue) is lifted directly from the novel.
  7. If you're looking for suggestions, I don't think you can go wrong with ANY of the Chandler or Hammett novels. Read 'em all!
  8. He was in a serious car accident some months ago, but fortunately seems to be recovering well.
  9. Well, he IS married to Laurie Anderson! ... and Zorn as a long-time "downtown" musician would certainly be a very familiar face.
  10. Yep, "Death Magnetic" was good!
  11. What's THIS all about? [just a curious Excel user]
  12. From Monday's SF Chronicle gossip column: And at Tuesday's U2 concert, Bono described a Bay Area dinner the night before as a G-3 summit of U2, Metallica and Green Day, talking about staging a music festival. The venue, The Chronicle's Paolo Lucchesi blogged Thursday, was A16, and there were more than three summiteers. The gathering included Lou Reed, U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr., the Edge, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Metallica's Lars Ulrich. After dinner, the movable feast continued at Rye. Rumor has it that Reed was in Marin last week, recording with Metallica.

All those Magic Triangle albums are great - if you can find them. Also: ... and "Seven Minds", if you can find THAT.
  14. No way! This guy's ageless!
  15. I've been OK with the Amazon cloud drive. It's good for me to have music easily available at work. Less of a hassle than copying files back and forth with a USB drive. I also haven't uploaded so many albums that the 20GB limit is a problem. BTW, when you buy an MP3 album from Amazon, you have an option to move straight to the cloud or download.
  16. I bought those large DVD sets of Danger Man and the Prisoner a few years ago for quite a bit more $$. I see you can get both together now for $66.98. Get them!
  17. Great show. Catch them if you can. All-star lineup, that's for SURE.
  18. I remember that, too. Guess he wasn't such a "wizard".
  19. They accidentally sent me a 2nd one of those a month after I ordered one. They said keep it for free. Unfortunately the live concert is a case where the original edited version is better than the complete one. There's a dry flute solo that never seems to end, some guitar wankery and a drum solo that will make you think much more highly of "Toad." Not that much "official" live stuff from that era, so I was looking forward to it. Having said that.......I got an email saying that it was back-ordered and "If for any reason, we are unable to ship any item within 25 days, we'll notify you by e-mail, cancel the backorder, and your account will not be charged." Needless to say, I don't expect to ever see it.
  20. Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big Band Bobby Sanabria Mingus Big Band John Hollenbeck Gerald Wilson is still recording (at 90+ years of age)!
  21. I ordered a 3-disk deluxe version of Jethro Tull's "Stand Up" for $14.99 with the "499sale" code. Also saw that I had credit for 1 free album, too (not sure why). That'll be the end of it for me ...
  22. If you have an eMusic account, you can get it for $2.94
  23. Hold onto your hats, they're selling Lee's 3 disk "Live at the Lighthouse" set for $6.49. Anyone who doesn't already have this, get it..............NOW!
  24. I haven't bought anything from them in quite a while. I'm not surprised they decided to hang it up. I use to buy from BMG quite a bit, but that was in the "old days".
