Dan Gould Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I've been satisfying a major blues jones lately, but I've been doing it almost exclusively through Amazon Marketplace, which gets me to wondering just how we spend the majority of our music dollar. Quote

Eric Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I answered number 2 which, to me, includes number 3. Ditto, except the other way I would do 1 in a heartbeat if there were any 1s around. Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 2, 2006 Author Report Posted November 2, 2006 I answered number 2 which, to me, includes number 3. Well shoot me but I was trying to distinguish between the mighty Amazon 800 lb gorilla and the small to mid-size businesses that use their service to sell to consumers. Quote
mikelz777 Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 (edited) I answered number 2 which, to me, includes number 3. Well shoot me but I was trying to distinguish between the mighty Amazon 800 lb gorilla and the small to mid-size businesses that use their service to sell to consumers. I took the difference to mean Amazons "retail" price vs. what is very often obtained cheaper new or used via Marketplace or private sellers. I'm a #3 but often buy via half.com as well. They would be my top 2. Edited November 2, 2006 by mikelz777 Quote
Ron S Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I answered number 2 which, to me, includes number 3. Well shoot me but I was trying to distinguish between the mighty Amazon 800 lb gorilla and the small to mid-size businesses that use their service to sell to consumers. But I generally go to whoever has the best price (and that includes other internet retailers such as yourmusic). So I chose #2 as just a general internet category. And if it's all the same to you, I'd really prefer not to shoot you. Quote
randyhersom Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Could have been worded more gently of course, but eMusic is my primary source. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I'm all over the map. . . cduniverse. . . yourmusic. . . half.com. . . amazon markeptlace. . .bricks and mortars. . .private individuals. . . . I chose the final option. Quote
medjuck Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Probably Cd Universe or Amazon but I do buy a lot of things I'm just a bit curious about from the iTunes store. When I'm in LA I do stock up at Amoeba. Quote

Jazz Kat Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I dont know if anyone really cares, but I get my music from a mixture of Borders, old record shops, Amazon, and YourMusic. Every so often, I download from I-tunes. Thing about that is you don't get no liner notes or credits. Quote
Sundog Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Mostly online including.... - CDU - YourMusic - Dusty Groove - Descarga - Bestprices.com Quote
Dan Gould Posted November 3, 2006 Author Report Posted November 3, 2006 I'm curious about the ten people who still say that B&M stores get most of their money. Where do you guys live? Quote
(BB) Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Support Independently Owned Small Business The only time I ever buy any music from a place like Amazon or B&N is when I get a gift certificate. I spend 75% of my music money at my local shop, and I sure do hope Dusty Groove is Independently owned, or I'm a hypocrite once again. Bill Quote
T.D. Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Went with the "no single place" category. But almost all (probably over 90%) online, with eBay, Amazon Marketplace and yourmusic the leaders. Concord really skewed things this year! J&R has occasional sales (OJCs $6.99, Blue Notes $7.99) which get sporadic moderate orders. I'm in a rural area, but try to support the one semi-local (independent) shop worth visiting. Quote

Claude Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Isn't that obvious? You can't steal CDs in online stores ... Quote
GA Russell Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Concord really skewed things this year! Of course! How could I have forgotten! Still same choice for me, online stores, but without doubt I got more CDs from Concord and its blowout sale than anywhere else this year - 46. Quote
brownie Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 I have several record shops within walking distance from my place. That's where I do most of my purchases. Very little business via the internet so far! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Bricks & Mortar - or in Terry's case, a stall in Pontypridd Market - is where I buy most albums - 40 this year so far. But CD Universe is not far behind, with 34, then Amazon UK - almost always the marketplace vendors - 20. Then 18-20 others share the other hundred or so. The top 3 take just over half my spend.
