  1. I hope Ran is up for a Cam Jazz box set in the near future (next batch maybe?)
  2. I've done the same - earlier this year I removed all of the inner sleeves from the Ogun discs I have & replaced them with the "cellophane" type I normally use - I found they were scratching & staining the discs Get the Blue Notes box set - it's superb - before it goes OOP. It'll end up going the way of the Harry Miller set - impossible to find second hand cause everyone who owns a copy would be very reluctant to part with it.
  3. Dusty Groove are listing the Tapscott for an October release (Import CDs don't have it on their database yet) http://www.dustygroove.com/item/717032
  4. According to the Albert Ayler site, the alternate Spirits is not part of it. http://www.ayler.co.uk/html/what_s_new.html: "Speaking of which, ESP do have one 'unreleased' track, courtesy of Martin Davidson. It's the alternate 'Spirits' which did appear on some early editions of Spiritual Unity. There's more information about it on the Spiritual Unity page, but apparently ESP didn't have a copy of the fifth track until recently, when Martin Davidson (of the Emanem label) sent them one, and ESP told him that their next issue of Spiritual Unity will contain all five tracks from the session...." Now available as preorder from Amazon; release date August 26: Spiritual Unity, recorded on July 10, 1964, is the album that made Albert Ayler and ESP-Disk famous. Ayler's sound was unprecedented, much rawer than any other jazz of the time. The 50th Anniversary Expanded Edition includes as a bonus the track ""Vibrations,"" which was briefly and accidentally substituted for ""Spirits"" on an early vinyl edition. It is the first time both ""Spirits"" and ""Vibrations"" have been on an edition of Spiritual Unity. finally!!! Dusty Groove also have it listed but not Import CDs or even the ESP site
  5. here's more details re the Young Lee LP (Part of the Jazz Legacy Series #55) http://www.discogs.com/Lee-Konitz-Young-Lee/release/4348752 plus I've tweaked/added more details to my session details Konitz Paris 53 session.pdf
  6. Well, I think I've finally sorted out this problematic session with the help of one of the other Organissimo members who sourced for me an original Roost 10" LP & The Prestige LP (Ezz-Thetic!) have sent this to Tom Lord to update his discography Konitz Paris 53 session.pdf

Wonder how much of this will be recorded? what a week of EP - tempted to fly over & catch him Go Necks!! - great Australian Unit
  8. oh no!! RIP JJ
  9. I just wondered why he re-issued it with a new catalogue number if it's exactly the same as Emanem 4107. Anyway, I can live in hope, can't I? Are they remastered ?
  10. totally agree - I much prefer the card sleeves to plastic jewel cases also terrific sleeve designs & essays
  11. I thought the Gheim CD is a straight reissue of the previous CD release - that's great if there is more material I'd actually been looking for a second hand copy of the earlier OOP CD
  12. Just heard the news on the radio, immediately thought of Dead Poets Society & teared up RIP Robin
  13. Emanem will be releasing (September) a double Lacy CD set "Cycles" (1976-80) http://www.emanemdisc.com/E5205.html Mostly unreleased but 5 titles were previously released as part of the double Hat Art LP "Ballets" There are also 3 unreleased titles from this session (Dec 18, 1980 - Porrentruy) completing Disc 2 Also, later this month we'll see "Avignon and After - 2" (1972-77)
  14. Many thanks Jeff pity we don't know who the other musicians were
  15. The same version of "Count Every Star" was released on 3 US CDs plus the Mosaic Green/Clark - there wasn't an alternate take 1. Complete quartets of Green & Clark (2CD) 2. GG's "Born To Be Blue" 3. IQ's "Blue & Sentimental" (McMaster & RVG)
  16. I've had nothing but good experiences with them (6 orders since late 2012) They always reply to emails Will order items (that are not listed) on request Promptly replaced a damaged (cracked) CD plus even replaced a damaged CD that I hadn't purchased from them (no response from the original vendor)
  17. Umar Ali !! I've had my copy for over a week now (ex Jazz Messengers) - SQ is much better (official tapes) than the incomplete spanish version (taken from the radio broadcast) If it's Rashied and Muhammad's brother, it's Omar. Unfortunately the booklet has the misspelling (multiple times) i.e. Umar
  18. got a batch of the UCCQ's (75th anniversary) last week - just trying to fill the gaps but I also had to try out the Greens (Oleo, Matador & Gooden's Corner) & Mobleys (Poppin' & Curtain Call) They do sound much better than the 90's pressings Listening right now to the extra unreleased material on the Patton "Blue John" disc - surprised it wasn't released back in the 90's
  19. Just received the email from Pop Market It's Black Lion material remastered by Bernie Grundman They've chosen 3 artists - Dexter Gordon, Miles Davis & Johnny Griffin - each has a 3LP set (one 33rpm & 2x45 rpm LPs) - technically not MD but actually Ann Hathaway & Earl Coleman sessions It looks like the 2 45rpm LPs contain the same material as the 33 rpm LP - appears to aimed at audiophiles OTT IMHO!!!
  20. I see they have the box for 185 euros - not too bad I got my copy from Amazon UK (last year) when they spot dropped the price (got it for £154) but now its back over £250 (appears to be the long term standard price for Amazon UK) It may be worth keeping an eye on the UK site if you are keen - they may do it again
  21. From my experience when an item is not in stock, it disappears from the database then reappears once they reobtain it So, if its listed there is a highly likely chance that its in stock
  22. Umar Ali !! I've had my copy for over a week now (ex Jazz Messengers) - SQ is much better (official tapes) than the incomplete spanish version (taken from the radio broadcast)

    Steve Lacy

i was lucky enough to meet & converse with him when he played here in Brisbane in the late 90's He had that special "aura" about him Really miss him - can't believe it's 10 years since his passing
  24. wow!! - never heard of this one - not listed on Michael's website or the Lord Discography looks like the sort of thing Johnny Trunk would rerelease on his label would have been even nicer if Joe Harriott was present
