Any advice/input on the Goodman Orchestra Okeh/Columbia set - Is this worth getting? Have earmarked the Hawkins & upcoming Mingus (got a fantastic tax return this year) plus or minus the BG box - how essential is this Looking at the Lord Discography most of the sessions in the box have missing titles (all vocals) - some included in other sets (eg Mildred Bailey) Never been a huge fan of BG though I do have the Mosaic Capitol Small Groups - my particular interest with him is the Wardell Gray connection (have a lot of this material) & Charlie Christian (have the 4CD box plus the JSP live set & the uptown) Is the big band/Orchestra material on par with say Basie or Ellington? (or is this a chalk & cheese comparison)

$26.00 "used-like new" is a little more reasonable. You may want to put it on an Amazon wish list and watch it over time. I picked up this set used but the discs were mint for $16.00. I wanted it but wasn't "hot" for it so I just kept an eye on it from time to time for over a year when I got it at that couldn't pass it up price. Have been doing this for a couple of years now - have created Amazon (US & UK) wish lists which I add to (and subtract when I score) but also check every other day - picked up some great bargains (especially via Zoverstocks)

Thanks romualdo. I e-mailed Hazel yesterday about this and am waiting for her to confirm the price. In her email she noted that she would not be available from july 11 to the 18 (medical reasons)

CTI reissues: box-set, 1971 concert, single titles
romualdo replied to ghost of miles's topic in Re-issues
were these "Southgate Palace" live versions released on earlier CTI CD's or are they making their first appearance on the most recent US reissues? -
we have a pharmacy here, the "Henderson Apotheke", which claims to be the only pharmacy world-wide named after Fletcher Henderson - could well be true... Didn't he have a masters degree in chemistry?

There's a link to HMV Japan in post #2 and they're also available from CDJapan at 999 yen or about $10 each, plus shipping. CD Japan is certainly the way to go - have been buying from them for a few years now -> a bit better than HMV Japan price wise (shipping more expensive with HMV)

All discographies I can access list two titles (Forest Flower, 2 parts & East of the Sun) as coming from the 66 Monterey concert (Sept 18) The other two (Sorcery & Song of Her) are from a studio session (NYC Sept 8, 1966) My CD version has applause (during & after the tracks) on both of the "studio" titles -> was this dubbed in to make the whole album appear as one performance? or are all the titles actually from the Monterey concert. I've tracked down (downloaded) a 66 Monterey concert program but there are no track details listed (wouldn't expect there to be anyway)

How do you get those in without the bulk? Just jam them in the case? I have these as well but I usually keep them out of the case (for various grateful dead, floyd, U2 etc). I've never had a problem with that - they are so thin that they don't add a great deal to the overall thickness, even in multiple CD sets Have been able to close all my box sets once the sleeves are utilised

They are cool sets. Just wish they had thought of doing them years before I had bought some of these discs 3 or 4 times! Did you get a "shipped from UK" <a class="inlineAdmedialink" href="#">message</a> when you ordered the Weather Report box? Has anyone had trouble getting the cds out of the sleeves ? I just got the woody shaw set and I had to use the same trick to get those cds out as on the ECM touchstones except these were alot harder to get out.....there's no way I'm putting them back in....will just store them in empty cases. My solution to this recurrent problem is the use of inner sleeves - have been buying these for a number of years (buy them in 50 or 100 lots from Sound Source CDs - see url) The discs are also much easier to get in & out once they're in the sleeve http://store.soundsourcecds.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_73&products_id=212 I would love to see all CD's come in these cardboard LP replica sleeves & with these inner sleeves the CDs are protected Jewel cases take up so much space
