Does Wayne Shorter play on the Jaco Japan 1982 stuff? I know he's on 2 tracks on WOM. Years ago, the public library in Paris had some Jaco live CD that had Wayne on it, which surprised me. I thought it was a boot. Bertrand.

What's Groove Hut? Is it legit and licensed from Universal (like Water Music), or some European boot (it hasn't been 50 years yet, so bootleg applies regardless in this context)? Argo belongs to Universal (or did last I checked) and they haven't done shit with the catalog. If they're starting to license, that's very good news, especially with Big John on board. Thanks for checking. There is a 1941 copyright deposit for a tune with this title by Monk, Guy and Page (with lyrics). We know Monk never recorded it, but as I was trying to track down the lead sheet today at the Library of Congress, I started coming up with these alternate scenarios, including the possibility that Guy or Page recorded it instead. Of course, I came up with this idea AFTER I left the builiding. They have the Lord CD-ROM. Bertrand.

Lewis Porter has this as well, and does not seem to question whether it's Coltrane or not. FWIW, he says that Phil Schaap claims it's from 1950. Of course, we now know that Porter's book is no longer the 'definitive' book on 'Trane, no matter what the critics might have claimed back then As I like to say, it's the definitive bio on so-and-so, until the next definitive bio comes along. This contradicts the claim that four MORE tracks would be available. Are they planning a CD eventually for us oldsters who occasionally download, but would prefer a CD? All joking aside, this gives me some ideas re: Wayne Shorter. Since his CDs are so few and far between, I've long thought he should put out more live stuff, just to keep the fans happy. One thing he could do is go the Allman Brothers route, and sell CDs after the show of the show that just took place. I know I'd be buying. Another alternative is to put out an official box set (i.e. beat the boots) of various live shows from the last few years, from different bands. This set could include: 1) One or two quartet shows 2) A duet with Herbie 3) A gig with orchestra (the one Adam and I saw in LA in January 2006 was real nice; I wonder if it was taped) 4) A gig with Herbie, Dave Holland and Brian Blade from that tour (Perugia is amazing) 5) Some rarity from the post-Weather Report period - maybe a gig from the tour with Larry Coryell? But who to pitch this too? I've talked to Wayne briefly a few times, but I would not want to approach him with anything business-like. But if he knows Sonny is doing it, it might convince him.
