  1. Thanks for always keeping us posted on these freebies, but I'll pass on this one. I need a twitter account like I need a third testicle Bertrand.
  2. Just saw this thread. Can one actually download the set with J. Mac? Bertrand.
  3. Joyeux anniversaire! Bertrand.
  4. Have a great one! Bertrand.
  5. Is 'Erotico' the only track Patton is on? Bertrand.
  6. iTunes has the Airplane 'Loves You' box which seems to have alternates of several tracks from the Volunteers album: 'We Can Be Together', 'Volunteers', 'Hey Frederick' and 'Wooden Ships' (allegedly an alternate mix but the timings don't match). Has anyone heard these and have any thoughts on them? Does Jorma take a totally different long solo on 'Frederick'? Thanks, Bertrand.
  7. I should have posted this before. Sorry about the delay. I should have mentioned a Lee Konitz gig that took place. My friend Brad Linde is curating a new jazz series at the beautiful Atlas Theatre in NE D.C. in the H street corridor. I will post a complete schedule later. The program is a mix of local and out of town artists. In the case some of the visitors, they are playing with Brad's tentet. In other cases, they are coming down with their own bands. Two upcoming shows of note: Wednesday, 10/5 (i.e. next week): Teddy Charles with Brad's tentet playing the arrangements from the Teddy Charles Tentet on Atlantic. Wednesday, 12/7: Grachan Moncur III with Brad's group playing Mark Masters' arrangements from Exploration. There will be other concerts using Mark's arrangements later in the series. A special thanks to Rooster Ties who first hipped us to the Moncur/Masters record which led to a fruitful collaboration. PM me if you think you will be going to one of these. Bertrand.
  8. Got the Buddy Terry for $.67 - enjoying it as we speak. Thanks for the tip! Bertrand.
  9. Is the track 'Teotihuacan' which was an out-take from For Sure! that was in the Mosaic Box but not the Wounded Bird reissue included? Thanks, Bertrand.
  10. What was that Buddy Terry album with Woody Shaw again? This one has A LOT of Woody, correct? Bertrand.
  11. I predict this is going to be the funniest thread ever. Proceed... Bertrand.
  12. (assuming each animal has a normal complement of limbs)
  13. Paid a lot more for the two I got I think I'll get the other two. What's the Long John Silver they have for $9.79? Is it a boot? Bertrand.
  14. Lon, Thanks for the info. For the same kind of time management reasons you alluded to, I decided not to get this set, but I am curious about the track with Jack Casady, so I will get that one as a download. Is the 'Hey Joe' from a different night than the three nights in the box? How much more Winterland material is there? As for the Airplane, there have been some recent 'official' releases of live performances, my favorite of which is the one from the Matrix. The instrumental version of 'Ice Cream Phoenix' is fast becoming one of my favorite Airplane tracks. Bertrand.
  15. Actually, I think what I posted above is not correct. Lon's link and the blurb from Casady's site (which I think are the same thing) only mention the 4-CD set. I missed this whole thing about 5 CDs earlier. So I think it's the version of this tune from the 4-CD set. So we know Jack plays on 'Killing Floor'. Is it the version from Winterland on 10/10/68 (disc one, track 5 7:55) or the version from the Fillmore on 2/4/68 (disc five, track 1 4:05) which is only available through Amazon? Thanks, Bertrand.
  16. Cuaght this last night (our own David Weiss is in the band). Some absolutely stunning music. Beautiful arrangements of 5 Joe Chambers compositions and two Joe Henderson tunes ('Punjab' and 'Power To The People'). I will post a setlist later. Last night is tonight - go catch it if you can. Bertrand.
  17. Unfortunately, the link above does not seem to work. Jack Casady's website seems to imply that he is on track 1, disc 5 ('Killing Floor'). When you guys receive this set, can you confirm that this is the one and only track he is on? Thanks, Bertrand.
  18. I've had the Marantz for about a year and am very happy with it. Bertrand.
  19. Is this the one that has one track with Jack Casady? Which track is it? Thanks, Bertrand.
  20. According to Brian Priestley's "Chasin' the Bird," "it's a song ["Mes Souliers De Daim"} from the French Caribbean that Charlie picked up in Paris." My friend Philippe Baudoin wrote an article on this and the statement above is the gist of his findings. I believe it is in a fairly recent issue of Cahiers du Jazz. I will try to find out more from him. IIRC, Bird telescoped two tunes that were on the A and B sides of a 45 that Philippe found. Lou told me it was Massey on two separate occasions, but I do think he is getting it mixed up with 'Fiesta'. Cal originally copyrighted 'Fiesta' on 11/09/49 (EU185571), but Bird did not record it until 3/12/51 (same day as 'Suede') so this piece existed before the Bird session. Could someone have recorded it elsewhere between 11/49 and 3/51? The copyright deposit has lyrics. Here's something odd I just noticed. There is a registration under Parker for 'My Little Suede Shoes' (EU 431254) dated 3/26/56. There is also a second registration for 'Fiesta' on the same day (EU431077). Someone from Verve must have sent in a whole stack that day: my hunch is that all numbers between 431077 and 431254 were all sent in together by the same person. I can check this in the books when I go back there in a month or so, if anyone cares. Bertrand.
  21. Is Wynton contributing to this one Saw the Yardbirds last night. Their guitarist Ben King is excellent. No Clapton needed to make this a great band. A special mention to singer Andy Mitchell, who really has a great voice (and plays harmonica very well). Bertrand.
  22. 1) Mohammed was indeed a wonderful person. I got to hang out there a few times when he was there (I saw George Braith once!) and he and his wife were charming hosts. 2) I know nothing about the new 'business structure'. I do not know what transpired, but the odds that the reason this assault was justified are slim to none, which is true of almost all assaults. I do want to hear the other side of the story. Bertrand.
  23. the way Max treated him is a shame. What did Max do to him? Bertrand.
  24. There's a video of this band on the show listed above playing a song called 'The Collapso' on youtube. Who is the guy in the cape who starts off by speaking/singing while kneeling on the ground? Great tune, but his facial expressions annoy me. He's the bassist, so I guess it's John Greaves. Bertrand.
  25. I had the 3-LP set and I think it was my favorite of their records but holy crap, how much is this set? Bertrand.
