  1. Maybe the T-Bone Walker, and partly because I have had it longer than any other Mosaic set. I also come back to the Benedetti Charlie Parker set on a regular basis in search of being surprised again by relatively fresh-sounding Bird solos. I certainly spin the Andrew Hill box on a regular basis. I probably listen to Lester Young more than any other artist. So those relatively new Mosaics should eventually become the most listened to.
  2. Wow! Now that was an unexpected pleasure!
  3. Thanks, people. Well, it started working again for some unknown reason.. I guess that iTunes justwanted a day off.
  4. I am a long time iTunes user. I have a large digital collection and manage my musical manually with a number of different iPods. Suddenly, iTunes is no longer allowing me to load any music onto any of my iPods. The musical files are there. I can play them on iTunes. But I cannot transfer them anywhere. Does anybody have any idea of what could be going on? Thanks
  5. I have also loved his drumming. RIP
  6. While I can accept Jim's arguments about the profundity of Pharaoh Sanders playing with late Trane, my ear is still very much with felser. Somehow, I really do not enjoy listening to Sanders with Trane. I do like Sanders later work quite a bit, from Impulse! on up.
  7. Not necessarily. I actually like listening to Kenny Dorham more. But Clifford Brown did have more flash and charisma, not to mention technique.
  8. As I recall, Sam Cooke was very fond of Curtis Womack's voice, even preferring it to Bobby's. RIP
  9. I might start using Spotify as well even though, ironically, I already have too much music in the sense that I don't even have enough time left on earth to listen through my collection once any more. What I would use Spotify for is to try to keep up with listening to more new music. I have really become too much of an old fart in my listening habits.
  10. The release of this Koln set somehow missed me. I will have to get it.
  11. I was given an iPod full of music. I don't recall how many selections were on it. But I certainly went through all of the Basie, and most of the recent CD release was not there.
  12. Late 50s and early 60s was a fine vintage for Monk in my book.
  13. Maybe you were. I wasn't.
  14. When I visited the museum several years ago, they gave me a lot to listen to. But almost none of the recently released Basie with Pres tracks were there. I thought that they had given me everything, and was therefore very surprised at the last release. I don't know if there is a way to survey the entire collection at the museum, unless maybe if you make an appointment with Loren to do so. Maybe some of it still hasn't even been digitalized.
  15. I'll go with Louis Armstrong's 1931 versions, both takes.
  16. I am certainly not a Dylan hater by any means, but I really couldn't get with the Xmas album at all.
  17. There are certainly plans to release more. But I don't know how concrete they are.
  18. Get an iPod Touch with 120 GB. That is what I use. Quite a lot can fit on it, and it is actually faster and more convenient for me to adjust the music downloaded on it as needed than find 3-4 particular CDs, take them with me to the car, store them, and then remember to bring them back into the house (without some of them falling on the ground, getting their cases smashed, and discs scratched).
  19. Damn. That is really bad news. I hadn't been following news around him much lately and didn't realize that he was very sick. He was a truly fine artist. RIP
  20. It makes sense. The CD age is over. Maybe there is still a place for certain specialized labels that cater to collectors, i.e. Mosaic, Bear Family. But this is not the way that pop music gets to a mass audience any more, period. Young people do not even own CD players for the most part.
  21. So many great albums. If I could only have two, it would be "I Never Loved a Man" and "Lady Soul." I don't know which one I would choose as a third. Two songs not on those two albums that I certainly couldn't live without are "Angel" and "Call Me."
  22. RIP.
  23. I like her quite a bit. She is a true original, a voice that you never mistake for somebody else - and quite a voice at that.
