  1. I've got it and aside from a couple snippets of the unreleased Vanguard material, I have not listened to it. I will say that the booklet sets a new low for being incredibly hard to read - tiny font and often set against a background that essentially makes it disappear. Or maybe I am just getting old.
  2. Hey, I am in Kansas and agree with what you are saying. It was inspirational and also interesting to learn the role of family in his life.
  3. my best friend was a DJ at the student radio station in Lawrence ... I had him play "Chronic Town" straight through so I could tape it off the radio loved that band ... glad their last couple albums were decent and all the IRS re-issues have been great
  4. Several people I know are doing this (substituting Roku for the PS3, but same difference). If you really have to watch something live, well that's what bars and friends are for
  5. I like the cover art. It is also nice how they sequenced it ... no album "bleeds" over to the next disc. The last 3-4 songs on disc 5 define "filler" (the "with strings" versions of the Half Note tracks ... guess you need 'em to be "complete")
  6. That's what I just bought! Ditto - bought and received this one from them last week.
  7. Armed with the Len Lyons book, "101 Best Jazz Albums", this is how I was introduced to jazz. Still remember the first two I bought "Small Group Recordings" by Wes Montgomery on Verve and "The Procrastinator" - yep, that was my introduction to Lee Morgan. I remember looking for one of the Freddie Hubbard lps recommended by the book and the record store clerk hipped me to Lee instead. Another early favorite was the Cannonball 2-fer that was recorded live in SF that contained "This Here". I still pull out my 2-fers to read the notes. Very fond memories indeed!
  8. See the seller has a 97% Positive feedback score ...
  9. More info at the French Legacy site - looks like there will also be a Dexter Gordon set, among others. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.legacyrecordings.fr/the-complete-albums-collection-une-nouvelle-ligne-de-serie-dalbums-originaux/&ei=1mk0TvqfNcmbtwfG88z6DA&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=7&sqi=2&ved=0CD0Q7gEwBg&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%2522woody%2Bshaw%2522%2B%2522popmarket%2522%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26tbo%3Dd%26biw%3D981%26bih%3D632%26prmd%3Divnsfdo
  10. While trying to learn more about the Columbia set, I discovered this: http://www.trumpetguild.org/products/recordings/latestcd.htm
  11. Nothing that hasn't been posted previously ... http://www.amazon.com/Impulse-2-on-1/lm/R4O8RODBKXJ00
  12. Shawn, I could not have said it better myself. I know the real world isn't this simple, but at the end of the day, we are really just a bunch of cyber- pals, proud to belong to this rather unique clubhouse that has more to do with friendship and affinity than anything else. This place can be a great release and in time, I hope you can think about it that way again. Best regards, Eric
  13. Very nice, thanks for posting Chuck. Been a bit of a jazz buying kick the last couple weeks ... my girlfriend asked me "what go that started"? Gee, I have no idea ...
  14. The David Murray set is very strong! Anyone care to make a recommendation for one of the other sets?
  15. Happy birthday Chuck!
  16. Oh HELL yeah. Anybody mention The Counts yet? Not until you did! I dig The Counts! I have What's Up Front That Counts, good stuff. They had this playing during my last in-store visit to the Bastards. Can't recall if I bought 2 or 3 copies. Nice ............!
  17. what all of them said I think my avatar is the same album as the above also have a slight preference for Midwest
  18. Added a review and marked the other as not helpful. Have always loved this one.
  19. That sounds pretty cool. Apple really does make stuff that you don't know you need until you use it. And while the iPads and the Macs are pricey, it is nice to be able to pick up an Airport Express or Apple TV for $99. Before I read this thread, I had been using a separate Airport Express simply to extend the range of my primary router. I had bought a 2nd one that was just sitting in a drawer. Now it is doing amazing things
  20. OK, so I got it all set up with my Mac ... was working perfectly ... Herbie's "Tell Me A Bedtime Story" no less So then I went to my PC, directed it to the Airport Express (via the drop down menu) and received a very polite, Apple-like message that said the speakers were currently in use. Now somebody buy Shawn's Airport Express :tup PS Controlling it all through my iPad ... I think I just beat Sonos at their own game (absent the music services) PSS Check that ... I am now streaming Wolfgang's Vault via my iPad to the Airport Express to my stereo ... Springsteen Winterland 1978 ... was also able to stream XM Radio, Pandora, really any Internet radio station to the Express ... so cool :excited:
  21. Hmmm, got to thinking ... I have two computers on my network with itunes - an Apple and a Dell. I wonder how the Airport Express will "know" which library I want to use (maybe it defaults to the Apple)? Guess I will find out.
  22. So what kind of interconnect do you use between the router and your stereo?
  23. I can vouch for the device - very easy to use and is a great way to extend the range of an existing router. I have never tried the Airport Express to stereo idea ... will be setting it up tonight!
