  1. I think the retro was from a different period, his classic period. This all 69 to 72, more commercial. Doesn't sound like anything I'll be interested in.
  2. I bought a cd from them and got the same message. Gave me a good laugh. I don't think they take themselves too seriously (which is nice to see).
  3. Didn't take this guy long to get banned. Must be a record. Reminds me of that old slogan: LSMFO. You've never heard of that one? Lucky Strikes Means Fine Organissimo
  4. For that price, it's a steal. Unbelievable deal you got.
  5. My earliest recollection is listening to my parents records, espcially broadway scores, like the Pajama Game, West Side Story and Guys and Dolls. They also had George M. Cohan records. I remember H-A-R-R-I-N-G-T-O-N spells Harrington. I can still remember that tune a little bit. I'm whistling as I write this.
  6. 20 years is a long time to look for a record. Incredible that you couldn't get it before now. Was it worth the wait?

You don't have to have the listening experience but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about Pres or Hawk. I'm not going to get into the top 5 thing but how about some guy named Lockjaw or Junior Cook?
  8. Bilbo Baggins Jeff Bagwell Duke of Wellington Patty Duke John Astin Morticia Addams (JK, just follow along for awhile... you'll catch on ) John Adams John Quincy Adams Adam Sandler
  9. I forgot to pick this one up last week when I was in Borders. Hope it's still there after reading this thread.
  10. I'll also be getting it.

    April OJCs

Unless I'm wrong, it seems like it's been about 6 months since we've seen any OJCs. Alan's jazz site has these coming out in the Summer along with the K2s. Weren't those also supposed to be out around now?
  12. It can't be soon enough.
  13. Happy Birthday Mark and, yes, keep those great pictures coming.
  14. Sounds to me Dan that no matter what you say even giving her a discographical entry will not convince her.
  15. Lord had nothing but jazzdepot.com which owns High Note lists the following about this date: These sessions for Work Done date from the late 1970s and find Stitt at the peak of his powers, live in the white heat of performance with Ray Drummond, Eddie Marshall and others at the San Francisco jazz venue, the Keystone Korner. With Ed Kelly, piano; Ray Drummond, bass; “Smiley” Winters, drums Tracks: Barkan the Blue; Indiana; The Shadow of Your Smile; Lover Man; Constellation; You Are the Sunshine of My Life; Stardust; On a Clear Day; LooseWalk.
  16. A great gentleman of jazz has died. RIP.
  17. Our house is well conditioned but I better check tonight because you never know.
  18. I'll check Lord tonight to see if it's listed.
  19. A terrible shame. I first became aware of him listening to Dexter and found his duo work with Kenny Drew tremendous. 58 is too too young. RIP and thanks.
  20. I hope that at the very least they get rid of the ESPN crew. Those guys are awful. I actually turn the TV down rather than hear them. They'd be well advised to use Michaels and Madden (although I'm not sure he'd like being only on cable).
  21. I rarely have the time to do what the reviewer does but I don't take them in the car mostly because while I'm listening I want to be able to refer to the book. So while this may be listening in short burts, when it comes to Mosaics, that's what I like to do. On another point, I used to look down at people who said they preferred to have the individual albums rather than the whole set. However, over time, I've come to see the wisdom of that and while I still buy 'em and enjoy 'em, I can see what people mean.
  22. That would be an incredible shame and loss if they disappear. I hope someone fills the void.
  23. I collect JRVGs only. Got any holes to fill?
  24. I continue to find it amazing that the fed. govt. has made absolutely no effort over the decades to whip together a brief ad campaign stressing the importance of saving money. I use to have a pretty cool eagle looking bank when I was a kid, almost looked like one of those German type eagles. Apropos of not saving enough, there was an article this past weekend (can't remember where) indicating that most people are not really ready for retirement or even thinking about saving for retirement.
  25. I've got Say it Loud and I didn't know he used that dreadful thing but if he did I couldn't tell. I'll have to go back and listen.
