  1. I've never thought very much of Ansell's writing and reviews in Jazz Journal (not that I read it these days). He just states the obvious and doesn't get into the music.
  2. I had New York Stories. I liked it less than the lineup suggested. I let it go to a Gatton fan who'd been looking for it for ages. So it went to a good home.
  3. Remember the album, can't believe I've never heard it before.
  4. Very sad news. Writer, humourist, broadcaster as well as a fine trumpet player. Still touring up to the end. Irreplacable. He'll be missed.
  5. My choice will be the Jimmy Giuffre Clarinet from the Mosaic set. In fact one of the first records I bought back in the fifties. It proved to be very influential in my future listening - it showed that there was a lot more to jazthan I'd heard up to that time. Thank you Jimmy. I did see him perform in the 60s but I'm not sure I was ready for the trio then.
  6. Sad news (again). Another individualist gone.
  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARK!! And thanks for sharing some great pics.
  8. I remember her well, takes me back to my cinema going teenage years. Ah! Nostalgia.
  9. Happy Birthday Aggie, have a great day.
  10. Happy Birthday Flurin my friend.
  11. Last evening's gig at the Portsmouth (UK) Jazz Society was by the Alan Barnes/Bruce Adams Quintet. John Pearce wsa the pianist, Paul Morgan, bass and Bobby Worth drums. All top class Brit players. Standards apart compositions ranged from Bigard through to Blue Mitchell.
  12. Horace Silver; Silvers Blue (French Epic)
  13. More sad news. There was something special and a little different about the Savoy label. Thanks for posting Larry.

    Hi

Hi Denis, welcome, there's something for everyone here.
  15. Very sad news. A consistently fine player.
  16. Very sad news. A consistently fine player.
  17. I have the Denon/Savoy cd that reissues the original album. The back cover indicates that Harden is on Accident and New Date but as Lon Says it's certainly Lee on Accident and Harden on new Date.
  18. Both Taylor's Prestige albums are fine, something else to dig out for a spin. Thanks for the reminder.
  19. "Mating Call" for me. A classic album - one for the desert island.
  20. Intruiging, I'm gonna have to give this one an airing.
  21. Sad news indeed. A mainstay of the UK scene.
  22. Happy Birthday Claude.
  23. This is a very nice set. It's all there and and, if I remember correctly in the right order. If you have no qualms about the grey issue I'd certainly recommend you go for it.
  24. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAVE A GOOD ONE
  25. Ah, so perhaps it's not my pet methodology MG Not quite by itself. I plugged in a router and deleted an old connection manager and modem software. How that changed things I have no idea. I'm very un-techy.
