JamesAHarrod Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 Many years ago several members of this forum suggested (or rather urged) that I put together all of my bits and pieces about Pacific Jazz into a narrative history of the label. I am happy to announce to the forum that my history will be published by McFarland this year. McFarland direct and Amazon are accepting pre-orders. Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 This is fantastic news, James! A great follow-up to your Stars of Jazz volume, and one I'll be buying for sure. Quote
JSngry Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 Guaranteed legit. Pre-ordered. Between my high school band director's record collection and (at the same time) a massive catalog dump of so many things Liberty ending up in a Treasure City cutout bin (which was more than a bin...more like an expanse), Pacific Jazz was the first jazz label to which I developed an awareness of a label being a LABEL. It was a weird confluence of events, but hey... For that reason alone, this book has a bit of moral/karmic/resolution necessity for me to get. Glad to do so! Quote
T.D. Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 Wow! Great news and congratulations! I'm a chess enthusiast, and McFarland Books has an absolutely sterling reputation for publishing chess books of biographical/historical nature. Quote
rostasi Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 It's still nearly a year away, but, yeah, I'll pick it up (even with Gioia's endorsement). Good news! Quote

Yeah, that's what I meant. I wanted to change "even with" to "despite," but our new rule here of not making changes after a set time made that not an option. Quote

Big Beat Steve Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 Great news! Will be keeping an eye on this and preordering. 10 months till publication might be an unbearably long time, though. Quote

Ken Dryden Posted June 26 Report Posted June 26 I wonder if a Pacific Jazz discography would include all of the butchered, edited repressings of Jim Hall's Jazz Guitar? Quote
JSngry Posted June 26 Report Posted June 26 Someday I'd like to see a documentation of the label post-1965, as well as the World Pacific label. But that's another story altogether... Quote
