I don't know how it happened, but you joined on March 3, 2003 and you have somehow had your "member id" number changed to 10596, which would put your account creation at December 2007. Quote
JSngry Posted yesterday at 02:34 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:34 PM Wasn't there a s software update at some point that resulted in a major restructuring of some of the tables? Something like that? I know we lost some things that couldn't be rebuilt exactly? Quote

ghost of miles Posted yesterday at 03:38 PM Author Report Posted yesterday at 03:38 PM My memory is that March 3, 2003, or 3/3/03, was the “catastrophic event” date when EMI implemented a reset of the Blue Note board, eliminating about half of the forums, installing clunky censoring software, and making other changes that deeply alienated the core community. There was a mass migration to AAJ that soured quickly, then another to a bulletin board on the Great Day in Harlem website, and finally Organissimo, after Jim offered to retool the band’s existing forum to resemble the BNBB. Iirc Jim Sangrey was an early advocate for making this board our new home, especially because it was run by a musician. That was almost 23 years ago! I sure do miss a lot of the regulars who’ve passed away or departed, but am also glad to see how many of the long-march veterans are still around in the age of Reddit and Substack and whatever else that’s coming along next in the next few years. JSngry Posted yesterday at 03:39 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:39 PM I like Myron Cohen now more than ever. You don't hear a voice like that in comedy these days Quote

Thumbs Up to this (I forgot the excursion to the Great Day site!) ... and didn't the BNBB ultimately cease to exist at all? For a corporate owned BB it was pretty freewheeling before Norah Jones fans discovered there were people who weren't that impressed with her. Quote

And still is. Other than the unwelcome from the AAJ forum community, it was more than obvious that the owner's focus was on profiting from the product if jazz, not advocating for the music itself. In a way, this place has been a Strata- East of online forums. Here's hoping it stays that way. Quote
Daniel A Posted yesterday at 04:42 PM Report Posted yesterday at 04:42 PM (edited) I joined the BNBB in 2001. My first thread there was about the master tapes for Duke Pearson's 'Sweet Honey Bee', which Tom Evered confirmed to be lost. I came over here on March 10, 2003. I felt young then, I still feel young in a sense, but I guess I'm middle aged now. I am so saddened and worried about the state of the world today that I cannot muster much energy for online message boards, not even as a means of mental escape. I do not encourage any political discussion here, just explaining the reason for a shift in focus. I am fortunate that I still play piano with a couple of bands and occasionally find time to listen to music at home. I am raising three kids, and I have a lot of concern about the reality they are facing. This place brought me a lot of joy, enlightenment and I made a couple of friends. Much grateful for that. Kevin Bresnahan Posted yesterday at 05:31 PM Report Posted yesterday at 05:31 PM I think it's best if we drop the Blue Note bulletin board talk. Jim Alfredson has said that he doesn't want that discussion here. Let's stick to this board's beginnings without re-hashing old endings. Quote

Daniel I too am very worried about the state of the world and it influences how I view bulletin boards. I pay more attention to one thread on another forum, and that community means a lot to me, helps me to cope with the worry and frankly anger I feel. I worry so much for my young neices and nephews (including -in law) and what their future will be like--I totially understand the importance you place on raising your kids and your worry about their reality ahead. I've always enjoyed your posting. Quote
EKE BBB Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago I just checked that I joined this board on March 12, 2003, having also previously joined AAJ forums, where I stayed and posted regularly for some years. Nowadays I am not the regular poster here that I used to be, but, of course, I am still proud and happy to be part of this community. And hope to be here for another (nearly) quarter of a century. GregK Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago I think I joined in early September 2003, after lurking here for months. I was active on the All About Jazz forums at the time, and when suddenly a lot of new members showed up who seemed knowledgeable about jazz were also discussing this new board, I eventually joined here since there the discussions here were so much more lively and informative than at AAJ. I did manage to meet Jim and the band, Chuck and the guy who used to be named connoisseurseries500 (Paul, maybe?) at one of their shows in Ann Arbor, which was a lot of fun! I have very little time for any forum anymore, and I can't find much time at all to listen to music as much as I used to. I do try to check in here at least once or twice a week though Quote

TheMusicalMarine Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago I joined in January of 2004, after first finding Jazz Corner and All About Jazz. Organissimo stole my heart from the get go. Never became a frequent poster but have generally been a regular lurker. And to think, back in my collection's infancy, I thought "Some day I will have 1800 CDs, and then I'll have everything I want." 6500 CDs later.... Quote

I don't post here as ofter as I used to, like many in this thread. Joined on March 10, 2003. And I'll always have an appreciation for what this board has been, what countless members have taught me over the years, and the enjoyment we used to have while live chatting (while listening to the same album at 20 different locations around the world and talking about the music - and cussing each other out). Since 2003 I've lived in Germany, Texas, New Jersey, and now Arizona. And during that time I've had the opportunity to meet many board members, for which I'm also thankful: Jazzbo, Shawn, Big Al, Rooster Ties, Vajerzy, RDK, Sidewinder, Soulstream, David Weiss, BFrank, Pete C, noj, and most recently Free For All. OliverM Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago I joined in 2015 and have learned and discovered a lot here! I don't post very often for various reasons, some of them due to a job where I cannot really connect to forums and time constraints such as two young kids to raise, others like sometimes not feeling knowledgeable enough. I have met a few members, a while ago at festivals. Good memories! Quote
Milestones Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago I came pretty late, all things considered--the year 2012. Somehow I got wind of this forum. It's been a great place all these years. Quote
