I recently received (Birthday present) the Alejandro Jodorowsky DVD box set ("Fando Y Lis", "El Topo", "The Holy Mountain" & "La Constellation Jodorowsky") It also contains 2 soundtrack CDs "El Topo" & "The Holy Mountain" This was a pleasant surprise as I've been looking for "The Holy Mountain" soundtrack due to the Don Cherry connection (part composer) Unfortunately there are no details (dates, musicians) in the set booklet - all we are told are Cherry/Jodorowsky & Ronald Frangipane were the composers Does anyone have that information or could source it - would be much appreciated

New Steve Lacy Trio on Ictus 10/16 & duo LP on Roaratorio
romualdo replied to colinmce's topic in New Releases
The Clinkers LP/CD (Hat Art/Hatology) is a solo concert in Basel (6/77) - the liner notes mention Joe McPhee waiting in the wings during the first half of the concert Maybe they played together during the second half & this could be the likely release. -

Does Lester Young play on the 15 minute version of "Stuffy" from the 1957 JATP All-Stars date (Sept or October) I'm currently listening to it - it's the last title (added as a bonus) on the 1993 CD "Coleman Hawkins & Roy Eldridge At The Opera House" The liner notes (research by Phil Schaap) list him as playing while other discographies omit him from this track. He's possibly the last soloist but Stan Getz is also listed as playing. Coleman also solos. Having trouble distinguishing between Getz & Young (???) Also interestng that Schaap has different dates (from other discogs) for the mono & stereo recordings of the CH/RE live at the Opera House.

Are there any box bargains currently available?
romualdo replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Just found an excellent UK online site - primarily classical but with a good jazz selection http://www.mdt.co.uk/listings/clearance-sale/jazz-clearance-sale.html they have a decent clearance category (not just the usual clearance crapola) easy to navigate about the site - well constructed IMHO picked up the Enrico Rava Cam Jazz Set for £9.92 (VAT removed) - none of the other CAM Jazz sets appear to be reduced though They have the Jazz House CDs (live at Ronnie Scott's) at half price - picked up Montgomery, Golson, Tracy, Freeman-Blythe double anybody else used these people? shipping costs are very reasonable (just over £1 per CD to Australia) -
pm on Derek Bailey, Improvisation (Ampersand (ampere02)) $9 (slip cover and back cover are worn - VG) Derek Bailey/George Lewis/John Zorn, Yankees (Charly), $4

I've been sourcing a number of the recent Japanese Warner/Atlantic "nice price" CD releases from this year Have been considering this Dick Katz release (infrequently see his solo material on CD) Any comments from the board - worth getting? I don't have any of his solo material but quite a bit on others (Pettiford, Cohn Mosaic Select, JJ Johnson, Dorham, Konitz, Carter, Candido, Raney, Rollins)

Interesting & personal list - leaning toward the avant with a lot of the selections Hadn't heard of Kaoru Abe before "he collaborated with some notable skronk-minded improvisers" sounds like he deserves a listen

Obscure Albums You'd Give Your Eye Teeth to Hear
romualdo replied to Pete C's topic in Recommendations
SOme of the Moers dates were released in what I remember as being official form back in the early 90s. This is how I acquired and first heard John Carter's Suite of Early American Folk Pieces for Solo Clarinet and Davis Murray's Live at Moers. Not an extensive reissue program, but it would appear many of these discs are still in print... http://www.moers-music.com/catalog/overview.html many thanks for the link - great to see so many CDs but unfortunately a lot of the ones I'm interested in havn't made it to digital territory yet -
